NMRA TQ-MIDGETS 2015 SEASON – RACES 10 and 11 – By Tim Kennedy
The 2015 NMRA-TQ Midget Series rolled on during the hot, summer months and completed races 10 and 11 of the 15 race schedule. Five-time NMRA series champion Chuck West, from Clovis, won both main events in the No. 38 West Evans Motor-sports Stealth/Kawasaki. He now has won six of the 11 features completed so far this season. All remaining series events will be run on third-mile clay speedways in Bakersfield and Santa Maria.
On Saturday, July 25 at Bakersfield Speedway in a seven car field, West started fourth and won a 20-lap TQ feature in a multi-division program. Pole starter Chris Thomas finished a career-best runner-up. West Evans started fifth and earned third. Scott Dobson was fourth. TQ rookies Ace Kale and his son Kevin were the last drivers who completed 20 laps. Doyle Mosley dropped out after five laps.
Round 11 on Saturday, August 8 at Santa Maria Speedway had eight TQs present. Evans set fastest qualifying time of 16.499 to edge Dobson by 0.102. Evans (from 4th) and West (from the pole) won the pair of four-car, 8-lap heat races.
West started second and won the 20-lap feature over fifth starter Bruce Hiroshima. Dobson (from 7th) and Evans (from 8th) and Ace Kale (from 4th) completed the top five finishers. Dave Lambert and Chris Thomas also completed all 20 laps. Kevin Kale finished eighth with 19 laps logged.
In driver points, West now leads his first cousin Evans by three points (669-666). S. Dobson is third with 638. Evans' No. 36 leads in car owners points with 699 points. Dobson's No. 18 has 671 and Hiroshima's No. 5 582 points.
