Terry McCarl Goes Flag-to-Flag for his Fourth 360 Nationals Victory!

Knoxville, IA, August 8, 2015 – If a face would appear next to the definition of the domination in the Dictionary, it just might be that of Terry McCarl, as the Altoona, Iowa native added a fourth championship trophy to his shelf in the 25^th annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals presented by Great Southern Bank.

Jumping to the lead twice as the caution for Justin Henderson and Ryan Roberts brought back the original start back, McCarl’s SnowPlow.com No. 24 buzzed the cushion with ease to lead the full 25 laps for the night’s $10,000 payday.

“Man, I’m use to going left after the scales. It’s been a while since I got to turn right here,” chuckled an elated Terry McCarl following his fifth career Knoxville Raceway victory in a 360cid Sprint Car. “What an honor to win this event for the fourth time. I said earlier, we really hadn’t planned on running this weekend had it not been for Don Long and Searsboro Telephone and Jamie Moyle.”

Asked what was his key to victory, McCarl replied, “Last night because we don’t run 360’s very often so it taught us a lot. We tightened the car more for tonight and when I was out there running, I thought if someone passes us, they must be running really good. I didn’t think the bottom was as good as it was last night. Dusty is so good on the bottom, and I didn’t ever hear anybody so I didn’t think there was enough to try down there.”

As much as four seconds ahead of the No. 82 of Dusty Zomer, a few hold ups in slower traffic allowed the Buffalo Wild Wings entry to close to 2.719 seconds at the drop of the checkered flag.

“The car was close, but I knew Terry was going to be tough to beat coming off the front row like that too. It was going to be a good race, but the top was just wide open. Last night I was running on the bottom, but it was just a little narrow so I never really did give it a shot,” said Zomer. “Hats off to Terry and his entire team. They were fast tonight.”

Marking his best finish in the 360 Nationals, Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour point’s leader, Aaron Reutzel, took the final podium step in the B.C. Fundz No. 87 after pulling off a hard slide job through turns three and four; blocking the charge on the low line entering the first turn on the second lap.

“When you run third to T-Mac and Dusty Zomer, that’s nothing to hang your head over, especially looking at all the people we did beat,” commented the Clute, Texas shoe. “This was a hell of a run by this team. I can’t thank Scottie McDonald enough with Dissolvalloy. If it wasn’t for him, we wouldn’t be standing here tonight but I’ve got a lot of great people here tonight; especially Christy Miller and I know Bob’s looking down smiling right now.”

Able to run down the No. 87 on several occasions, Wayne Johnson came close a few times to retake the third spot, but slower traffic kept the Townline Variety No. 77x fourth with Sammy Swindell taking fifth in the Cooper Motorsports No. 01.   

Clint Garner crossed sixth with Brian Brown working from 11^th to seventh. Danny Lasoski was eighth with Kevin Swindell making it to ninth from 15^th. Bronson Maeschen was the night’s KSE Hard Charger with a 24^th to 10^th run.

With impending weather removing 305cid competition from the lineup, five features were contested with Jake Bubak winning the E-Feature. Jeff Swindell led the way in the D-Feature with Sam Hafertepe, Jr. taking the win in the C-Feature. The final chance to make the show went to Ryan Roberts.

This is not a jab at Bill but was the racing as bad as it was last year? We didn't come back this year after the poor racing Saturday and Sunday in 2014.

After buyig the PPV for Wed and Thurs I didn't for Saturdays final and it was a smart move again.  5 Features won from the front row, the top 6 in the A finishing in the top 6 and 4 of them not passing a single car.  Not long ago I posted in another forum that the preliminary nights are great racing but the finals not so much and as usual the dummies went crazy, some people just don't learn.  On occasion you get a good final but a squirrel also finds an acorn at about the same rate, enjoy everyone....

Any idea why Kemenah scratched from the B...he was starting around 4th or so

You are so right..It was the most Boreing 3 nights of racing i have ever watched..I think its time to say goodby to 360 Nationals..It gets more Boreing every year.

If you tbought the B on Fri was boring, you need more help than I can offer!

I know he posted on Twitter yesterday that they were looking for an engine as their only 360 has issues. Looks like they weren't able to get one.

They should invert the whole field and make it a 50 lap main. Oops thats called the Trophy cup. No wonder it's the best winged 360 race of the year.  They call this the 360 Nationals and it's a 25 lap main ? Kinda makes you go hmmmmm.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

People like you are nuts.  It has nothing to do with 360 racing or 410 racing or 305 racing.  If you start on the front row 80% of your work is done, just do not make a stupid mistake.  Should they invert the top six, I do not know.  Get serious, they should cancel the race in the future because you did not like it.  Get real and go watch a re run of MAUDE on TV.

I was pleased with the racing both Thursday and Friday. IMO the track never got worked in enough for the feature last night. Which lead to a fast one lane track. I'll chalk it up to the hurry up mode with no support class. There just wasnt much passing all night. Of course I'm disappointed in the show, but it won't keep me from going to again. I dont know that a complete invert would work for the teams if you cant pass to begin with...  It's dirt track racing, there are gonna be times things dont work out the best due to multiple factors. Cant wait for the next one!

I have to say that I agree, Michael.  The Wed-Thurs shows at the Nationals are the reason I still go all four days.  I've seen some great racing on Saturday night (Friday not so much), but the prelim nights are pretty much guaranteed to have jaw-dropping action and  a lot of it..........
