Bullring Nationals at Placerville Speedway up next for the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series this Saturday at Placerville Speedway
Just seven-points separate the top-three in the KWS standings

By Gary Thomas

Placerville, CA – July 14, 2015…Lemoore’s Carson Macedo will lead a hot & heavy King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series point battle into the always action packed Placerville Speedway this Saturday night July 18.

The Placerville Speedway is located just 40 minutes from the capital city of Sacramento and marks round number 10 on the season for the King of the West Sprint Car Series. It continues one of the busiest stretches of the year for the tour and will be the final KWS 410 appearance this season at the El Dorado County Fairgrounds facility.

The Bullring Nationals had been held in 2011 & ’12 as an ASCS sanctioned event, with the winners being Wayne Johnson and Princeton’s Mason Moore. The event name is being revived in 2015 with many of the top Winged 410 Sprint Car drivers in California invading the tight confines of Placerville Speedway this Saturday night.

“The fans at Placerville are always great and really get into the racing,” said John Prentice of Prentice Motorsports Group. “They all have their local favorites and it’s a lot of fun to see so many people that have a passion for Sprint Car racing. The track itself is as action filled as it gets. Any time you are turning low 10-second laps you know it’s going to be wild. We’re looking forward to Saturday night and continuing the great season we have had. The competition has been stellar with the King of the West Series.”

Two-time King of the West 410 champion Kyle Hirst scored victory at Placerville Speedway with the series earlier this year and has captured the two most recent KWS events in Calistoga & Watsonville. The Chico, CA driver also picked up a King of the West triumph at the red clay bullring in 2013 aboard the Dennis & Teresa Roth owned Sprinter.

“Placerville Speedway is always one of my favorite places to race at and I can’t wait for this weekend,” said Hirst. “When it gets slick & has that big cushion up top to lean on there aren’t many places more fun to drive a Sprint Car at. Hopefully on Saturday we can park this Roth Motorsports 83jr on the front stretch again and continue the momentum we’ve built up. It’s been a great season so far and I’d love nothing more than to sweep both KWS races at Pville.”

Following a fourth place finish at last week’s HK Classic, Carson Macedo now finds himself out front of the KWS standings by just five-points over Fresno’s Dominic Scelzi & seven-markers over Campbell’s Bud Kaeding. Despite still searching for his first win Macedo has earned six top-five finishes this season with the series, including a podium effort in April at Placerville. The 19-year-old driver is currently in his first full-time campaign with the King of the West Sprint Car Series.

Scelzi looked to be in for a good point night last week until engine issues late in the going knocked him out of the feature. The 18-year-old will look to put that behind him at Placerville on Saturday, a track he finished fourth at in April. Bud Kaeding had a methodical charge last week from 15th to seventh and is gunning for a strong night in Placerville to close in further. Placerville Speedway however, is one of the few tracks Kaeding has yet to win at in his King of the West career.

The point battle hasn’t just heated up at the front of the standings, as the drivers ranking fourth through seventh are separated by only 10-markers. Fremont’s Shane Golobic, Elk Grove’s Bobby McMahan, Hanford’s DJ Netto & Campbell’s Brent Kaeding are all tightly bunched going into the high-banks on Saturday. Golobic, McMahan & Kaeding all have numerous wins in their career at the track, while Netto will be searching for his first.

Multiple-time Placerville winner & three-time series champ Jonathan Allard of Chico, Gilroy’s Jarrett Soares & Mitchell Faccinto of Hanford round out the top-10 in the King of the West 410 Sprint Car Series standings coming into Saturday. Allard has gained strength with the season going on and is poised to break into KWS victory lane soon.

Los Angeles wheel-man Tyler Walker has tallied four podium finishes in five KWS starts this year going into Saturday. T-Dub & crew chief Lee Lindgren claimed two wins at the red clay during their championship year in 2009 and look to break into victory lane this weekend. Walker’s record setting ninth King of the West Series win in ’09 also came at Placerville Speedway, which capped his title run.

More drivers expected Saturday for the Bullring Nationals include past series champion Jason Statler of Grass Valley, Roseville’s Colby Copeland, Auburn’s Andy Forsberg, Penngrove’s Chase Johnson, Sacramento’s Willie Croft, Fresno’s Craig Stidham, Placerville’s Andy Gregg, Auburn’s Richard Brace Jr., Coarsegold’s Scott Parker and others.

Adult tickets on Saturday will cost $22, seniors 62 & over will be $15, juniors 12-15 will be $15 and children 6-11 will be $6. All seating is general admission during the night. The pit gate at Placerville Speedway on Saturday opens at 2pm, with the front gate opening at 5pm and racing anticipated to begin around 7pm. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as the grandstands always pack in at the Placerville bullring.

The Placerville Speedway is located on the beautiful El Dorado County Fairgrounds in Placerville, California. There is a wonderful grass area to tailgate on and hang out at prior to the races. Take Hwy US-50 to Forni Road/Placerville Drive exit. Then go north on Placerville Drive to the Fairgrounds. The physical address is 100 Placerville Dr., Placerville, CA 95667. How much for a pit pass was looking to watch it from the top of the hill in a folding chair instead of being packed in those stands and covered with dirt?
