USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series

USAC SOUTHWEST SPRINT CARS DEBUT AT TUCSON SATURDAY

JUNE 24, 2015... This Saturday, June 27th, the popular USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series will make their debut at USA Raceway in Tucson, Arizona. The “Hot Summer Nights honoring America’s Military” will also showcase the IMCA Modifieds, SCRA Stock Cars, XMods, and Dwarf Cars. The Front Gates will open at 4:00pm with Racing scheduled to begin at 7:00pm. The facility will also host an open practice session on Friday night. Heading to USA Raceway, R.J. Johnson of Phoenix, Arizona leads the standings with a 67-point advantage. Racing Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson finished eighth last Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park. To date, the two-time defending champion has six feature wins, five heat race victories, one high point driver award, twelve top-10 finishes, and 109 feature laps led on the season. At Tucson, R.J. will be looking to continue his championship bid with his series leading 29th victory.

Buckeye, Arizona’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. ranks second in the chase for the championship. Driving the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / Rod End Supply RSS, Davis finished second to Matt Rossi in Saturday’s “Father’s Day Classic.” Heading to USA Raceway, the five-time Arizona Sprint Car Champion has one feature win, three heat race victories, two high point driver awards, twelve top-10 finishes, and 36 feature laps led to his credit. “Chargin” Charles is second on the series win list and will have his sights on his twelfth win.

After winning last Saturday’s “Father’s Day Classic,” Matt Rossi of South Central, Arizona has climbed to third in the point standings. Piloting the family owned #02 Apache Scapes / IWR Spike, Rossi has one high point driver award, three hard charger awards, eighth top-10 finishes, and 22 feature laps led in the campaign. Currently tied with Brady Bacon, Dave Darland, Stevie Sussex, and Rick Ziehl for sixth on the win list, the Western World Champion will be looking for his fourth triumph.

Peoria, Arizona’s Josh Pelkey sits fourth in the USAC SouthWest point chase. Driving Robbie and Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts Maxim, Pelkey finished sixth at Canyon Speedway Park after starting ninth. At press time, the 1997 ASCA Champion has one heat race victory, one high point driver award, and nine top-10 finishes on the year. Heading to Tucson, Josh ranks fourth on the SouthWest win list and will have his sights on his sixth win.

Stevie Sussex of Tempe, Arizona is fifth in the championship standings. Racing Dennis Gile’s #13S Quarterback Academy / Bobby Q Ellis, Sussex ran third last Saturday night. To date, the two-time Hank Arnold Memorial winner has two feature wins, three hard charger awards, ten top-10 finishes, and 72 feature laps led on the season. Tied with Brady Bacon, Dave Darland, Matt Rossi, and Rick Ziehl for sixth on the win list, Stevie will be looking for the Saturday night win at Tucson.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, Brian Hosford, “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, Andy Reinbold, Dennis Gile, “The Bull” Tye Mihocko, Nick Aiuto, Shon Deskins, Josh Shipley, Chris Bonneau, Michael Curtis, Mike Bonneau, and more.

USA Raceway is located at 4300 E. Los Reales Road in Tucson, Arizona. To get to the track, take Interstate 10 to exit 265. Drive 2.5 miles south on S. Alvernon Way, then 0.5 miles east on Los Reales Road. Adult tickets are $18, VIP Skybox tickets (with pit access) are $40, Junior tickets (12-6) are $8, and Children (5 & Under) are FREE. This event is also Military Appreciation Night and Military (Active & Retired) with valid ID will get free admission.
