My wife and I are coming up for the saturday show and I was wondering what are some must things to do as well as places to eat in and around Knoxville? I know all about Dingus and have been there.

Pie and ice cream outside the hall of fame Nationals week. Fantastic.

Lots of other cool food vendors around, good BBQ, tenderloin etc..

Lots of cool fan forums at the Hall of Fame that week, featuring drivers/announcers/promoters.

Do a few laps at Slideways just north of town, that's alot of fun,Tso Tso's on the square was a great place to eat, their broasted chicken was awsome, but they were closed earlier this season, don't know if was for good or not.Alot of people talk up the BBQ joint beside the Hall of fame, but it didn't impress me much.

I like drinking beer before, during and after the races.  Therefore, I can't remember what cool things we have done.

(There are photos out there though I guess)

If you can make it to the parade, I would recommend it.

Don't try to hit too many of the "must do/must see" things... there is way way too much to take in to fit in one day. You need to dedicate at least 2-3 hours just to walking a lap around the fairgrounds and surrounding parking lots and trying to see how much stuff gets crammed in there for the nats. Then be prepared to stand in line quite awhile at the places you try to really check out.

My advice would be to just get acclimated to the size and spectacle of Saturday at the nationals, then plan to come back for 2-10 days next year.

Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

Good advice. I'm not one of those people that have to do the "must do things". Take in a couple things and then walk around and take it all in . It's much more relaxing and enjoyable. Plus , you're not always thinking about the next thing you "must do".

Personally I have always felt the Saturday shows were the least exciting of all the nationals nights. I would second the advice to attend more than one night if at all possible.

Cheers!

I agree.  If run with no weather issues, the new Friday night format has made that as good as the qualifying nights---IMO.   I cannot wait until the next time my work schedule does not conflict with Nationals!  I am dying right now missing both qualifying nights!   I took a new job last year and today and yesterday are mandatory!!!!        ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!

Good for you.  Seems anymore in this day and age that too many have forgotten the true purpose of attending multi day races.  wink
