Justin Sanders claims fourth Taco Bravo win of the year in a wild main event Friday night at Ocean Speedway

By Gary Thomas

Watsonville, CA – June 14, 2015… Another entertaining Ocean Sprints presented by Taco Bravo feature was showcased on Friday night and was ultimately captured by point leader Justin Sanders of Watsonville, who extended his current lead at the halfway mark of the season.

It was the Ocean Sprints leading fourth main event victory of the year for Sanders, who looks to take home the track title for the first time in his career. The 22-year-old will bring a 31-point advantage at the top of the standings into the next event this coming Friday June 19.

This past Friday’s 30-lap feature was led down by first-time dash winner Kyler Shaw from Fresno, with Sanders on his outside. At the waving of the green flag Sanders charged into the lead, as Shaw settled into second. Two-time & reigning Ocean Sprints champion Shane Golobic then made his presence known taking over the runner up spot on lap-three.

Sanders looked strong up front, until getting loose in traffic off turn two on lap 13, which allowed Golobic the opportunity to gobble up the lead. Salinas, CA’s Jeremy Chisum had his best run of the season going, as he ran third for a number of laps, before getting into the wall and suffering damage that would end his night with 17-complete.

Golobic would hold the field at bay until the final five laps, when Sanders began to rapidly close and make it a fight to the end. With the top-two racing through traffic they would once again put on a show for the crowd, trading the lead coming down for the white flag. Golobic took the white as the leader, but going into turn one contact was made, resulting in Golobic’s car coming to a stop.

Sanders was miraculously able to keep going and he would dominate the green-white-checkered restart to cross the stripe in first and continue his career best season. Kyler Shaw finished in the second spot to cap his career best night in a Sprint Car. The youngster qualified third, before winning his heat and the dash. It was great to see Shaw have a strong night, as his team are some of the biggest supporters of Ocean Speedway, making the haul each week with two cars from Fresno.

Past Ocean Sprints champion Brad Furr came forward in the main event to round out the podium. The Stockton driver was seventh at the midway point and picked cars off to earn the solid finish. Morgan Hills Nicholas Ringo also had a career night to come home a very strong fourth in the feature. Ringo has continued to get better & better and also dominated his heat race on Friday. Completing the top-five and scoring his second top-five of the season was second year Sprint Car driver Dustin Golobic of Fremont.

The remainder of the top-10 was comprised of Corralitos’ Jerry Bonnema, Fresno’s Koen Shaw, Tracy’s Austin Liggett, S Golobic and Morgan Hills Nick Ringo Jr.

Koen Shaw scooped up the High Five Pizza Hard Charger Award coming from 15th to seventh in the feature. Gilroy’s Kurt Nelson was the Beer Optics Hard Luck Award winner after getting upside down in wild fashion during the dash. Prior to that, the veteran had a great night going after setting the Ray Scheidts Electric Fast Time Award to begin the program. Full results are available at www.racepmg.com
