NMRA-TQ MIDGETS – MAY RESULTS – By Tim Kennedy
Los Angeles, CA. - The 2015 NMRA-TQ Midget Series logged two more events during May at third-mile clay tracks. The events were races five and six of a scheduled 15 race season at three speedways. Chuck West, from Clovis, was back in the seat of a Stealth/Kawasaki owned by his cousin West Evans and won both features. The car had been undergoing a complete engine rebuilding by Bob Wirth. West was forced to drive TQ entries from other teams.
On May 2 at Santa Maria Speedway West set second fastest qualifying time of 17.154, won his 8-lap heat race and the 20-laps main event in a multi-division program. First heat winner Scott Dobson, fastest qualifier Bruce Hiroshima (17.013), and Evans completed the top four. All ran 20 laps. Four lapped rookies—Kevin Kale, Ace Kale, Paul Sanders and Ted Dann—finished in P 5-8 in the eight car field.
On May 16 the touring TQ troupe raced at their home track, Bakersfield Speedway in Oildale. With no time trials, West started second and won the first eight-lap heat race and also won the 20-lap feature after starting second. Evans won heat two and placed second in the feature after starting fourth. Hiroshima, and Dobson placed third and fourth and also completed all 20 laps. Rookies Ace Kale and Ted Dann ran 19 laps. K. Kale finished seventh with 18 laps. Chris Thomas started on the pole and dropped out on lap 9. Ninth starter on the grid was Doyle Mosley but he did not start.
The next NMRA-TQ race will be the annual Ron Otto Memorial race at Santa Maria Speedway on Saturday, June 6.
