you should get your facts straight , Todd let Terry go and he ride was offered to Sammy what was he to do say no, Terry wasnt going to dirve the car for Todd anymore. And as far as character if you go to enough races around the country sooner or later you will see them all do something foolish there all human not perfect like you. Ive even seen the great Steve KInser make a fool out of himself a few times.

Sammy's record speaks for itself.  If you don't recognize greatness then you are not a true fan of the sport.  His win totals and career accomplishments have made a lasting impact on the sport.  I for one, am hoping to see him race again just to have the chance to see one of the true giants in the sprint car world.  For those of you who cannot grant the respect of his accomplishments, think about the numbers he would have accumulated had he devoted the time to the World of Outlaws that Steve did over his career.  Maybe, there is a different reason you do not like Sammy, but I think he deserves and has earned the respect of the "true" fans of the sport.  As stated in a previous post, we all do things we regret whether it is what we said or what we did.  There is no question about his driving ability and what he brought to sprint car racing.

By the way, I am a huge Sammy fan, but I am also a huge Steve fan.  It's all about respect and wanting to see the best racing over the years.  Both of these legends have provided me with years and years of outstanding sprint car racing!!  Thanks fo both of them!!

I don't think his talent was ever in question.   Some people do not care if he is a royal a-hole, some do.  (please note,  I am refering to his "on stage" personna.  Maybe he is the greatest guy away from the track, but I am not hanging out with the guy,  I am paying $37 for entertainment at the racetrack)

Personally,  I am glad Sammy will be at the WoO show in Nebraska on Friday....it gives me another chance to boo him.

Does he have to pay to drive it and for repairs like Veal did?

Exactly...  Sammy went from nearly winning the Nats to not even being able to make the A in just that one short time frame.   Who knows why, but the simple fact is that Sammy has been out to lunch since they went back to Hoosier tires.   Given this, I'm not sure how much he's going to help JJ.   It's not like Sammy's jumping in a car that's already running at the front.   Given Sammy's recent history, I don't know if I see this car making great leaps towards the front.   On the other hand, he's the best one out there that's available.   JJ really needs someone to do for him what Scott Gerkin has done for Sides.   I personally don't see Sammy doing that for him, but we'll see what happens.  That's the great thing about racing, it surprises all us experts just when we think something can't happen....

Guys time goes by so fast I think we tend to forget some years. If I recall correctly on the sequence he lost the 50th with a flat tire in 2010.

In 2011 he ran third to Schatz and I beleive Shane Stewart and the next year 2012 he broke on his qualifying night. He opted not to run the first year Friday requalifying show and take his chances from 5th in the B. Bad choice by him, missing the A.

We forget that he led the Outlaws in wins that year with 13 in 2012 and then came the switch to Hoosier's in 2013 and that is where performance started falling off and changes started being made.

I'm certainly not sying he will make the JJR car go now. Time will tell. The fact is it was one of the fastest if not the fastest car in the country for 3 years, not 1. It's odd I believe the tires he hated so much for failing were the reason he was fast. Anyway back to the fun...

Nope, I haven't forgotten any of that stuff, from the flat tire at the Nats to the 13 wins.    And that's exactly the point I was making and that the other poster originally made, that he went from being on top to not having a clue and that it was a relatively short frame.    Either way you slice it or dice it, he doesn't have this tire figured out.    That's why I don't see great success coming in this deal with JJ.   He may prove me wrong though, and if he does more power to him.

Here are a few facts;

Fact, Sammy Swindell is one of the greatest sprint car drivers ever!

Fact; Terry McCarl hired Sammy to drive his car in '06 when he broke his leg. Terry tore his bicept tenden out in April of '10. Tod Quiring had taken over ownership of the team that Terry built. Tod wanted to hire another driver & Terry wanted to hire Sammy as he was running the full ASCS National tour that year year & Sammy had a moth off from his ASCS schedule and was a perfect fill in while Terry healed up.

Fact; Sammy hadn't won a WoO race in over 4 years and was immediately fast in the #24 car.

Fact; in '09 Terry won 19 features including 2 WoO events (including the Knight before the Kings Royal), 4 All Star events (Including Eldora Speedweek event after starting 11th) and both nights of the 360 Nationals. The team was 3rd in the nation on the money earned list in '09.

Fact; Sammy Swindell did not have a "Stumble Valve" on his car until he got into Terry's car. Not sure if he invented it but the Stumble Valve was brought into the sprint car world at that time by Tim Engler.

Fact; Terry was never upset that Sammy took over his ride. It's a business & we were actually relieved to move on to something new. Terry came back to drive Lynton Jeffery's back up car & won 4 out of 9 and had an offer from a top team to drive but he broke his right Tib & Fib in an All Star event at Husets a few weeks before the'10 Nationals.

Big Right Rear; Terry's fan's may still be bitter about it but he isn't at all. I would like everone to stop bringing Terry up everytime the subject of BG or Sammy comes up. He has nothing to do with either one and hasn't for years.

Good luck to JJR and Sammy I hope they have great success.

Lori McCarl

BTW-The 20th Annual FRC is Monday August 10th, $20,000 to WIN!! NSL Event. It's going to be awesome. Get tickets by calling 515-957-0020....Maybe 3 time winner Sammy Swindell will be there!

BOOM, that just happened!!!

Lori, you will just confuse the haters with facts, they fully believe an opinion is more important than a statistic.  Nice job....

Yea, its pretty ironic that Sammy kept having blowouts in the Goodyears a crucial times, I seem to remember him complaining about them, then when they switched to Hoosiers he wasn't very competitive.

Be careful what you wish for....

I hope he kicks ass this summer!

"it gives me another chance to boo him."

You're a class act, aren't you? In my opinion, it's childish and classless to boo any driver. Now, before anyone chimes in with, "I paid for my ticket, so I have the right to boo," I'm not saying you don't have the right. I'm saying it shows how childish and classless you are when you do boo or flip off a driver (like he's really looking in the stands and see's you flipping him off.) And no, it doesn't make you appear cool to the fans around you.

BTW, watching talented drivers race sprint cars isn't enough entertainment for you? That's what I go for. I could less about all these "gee, golly, and gosh" interviews with a fake smile and wink. Sammy might sound grumpy and boring, but at least his interviews are straight and to the point. With that being said, a sincerely upbeat and excited interview is great, but those are far and few between by ANY driver.

I agree that cookie cutter interviews suck, but Sammy has done enough at the racetrack to earn his douchbag status.   It's fun to boo as well as cheer, I don't see the childish part of it.    If Sammy or any other driver cannot handle the negative, they are free to either quit being a douchbag or change careers.   IMHO, it does not matter how much sucess you have on the track if you are an Ahole.

This is the post of the year! Greatest use of sarcasm EVER! No serious fan with an IQ higher than 6 would ever say that and think they were "cool".  Can douchebag fans change careers if they ever say anything as stupid speedbump? Thanks for the laugh.
