Anyone aware of any non-MOWA regulars running at Tri City Speedway this Friday night? Its a shame to see its only $2k to win with absolutely no other winged racing going on in the area. Dropping one support class (both LMs and Mods also pay $2k to win) and this could have been a high car count show for the sprints

It goes without saying that I would like to see them drop a class and pay $4,000 to win, but that makes no since for the promoter. For the most part you will get the same amount of cars possibly 5-7 less for a $2k to win show as you would with a $4k to win show. Why would you want to do that when you can get 25 more cars of a different class and all of their crews and fans to pay the same pit pass and ticket prices as the added sprint cars would have. It makes more since from a tracks standpoint to spread the money out evenly and try to get as many quality cars from each division as possible.  All of the MOWA shows that I have been to at Granite City have had between 24-30 cars, and have all been decent shows. The purse stuff has been beaten to death in every series, but aside from raising fan costs, I'm not sure what the solution is. 2k will draw a few bigger name cars, 3k to win last weekend drew 40.

Gotta remember that 3k to win last week also was $4-500 to start which makes a big difference.

I have heard a former IRA champ is planning on running at Granite City Friday then head up for the IRA opener at Lasalle on Saturday. Good weekend of sprint car racing for Illinois!

Either way, I will be at BOTH shows supporting MOWA and IRA! I have a feeling I know who that former champ is, as he came to MO last year pre IRA season. Maybe some of the bigger named guys will make a surprise appearance. Just looking forward to getting this season started!

Brad Loyet has it on his schedule.  He finished third at Burlington with the NSL last Saturday and finished first at Farmington the previous week but was disqualified for an illegal RR tire.   He will be tough to handle for the MOWA regulars.

"with absolutely no other winged racing going on in the area"  say what?  St. Francois County Raceway, Farmington is scheduled to run on Saturday.  23 sprint cars each of the past two weeks.  The track has a new promoter and the track has been great.  If you have not been there you owe it to yourself to make a visit.

They would take a huge hit at the front gate if they did that.  The majority of the fans that will be there will be there for the late models and modifieds.

Also, ASCS has a National race scheduled for Moberly, MO on Saturday nite.

With the NSL up and running it will definitely pull from the mowa races. Even though there isn't an NSL race this Friday, some of the guys will probably choose to save a little wear and tear on equipment. Having traveled for a couple mowa races, a lot of times they seem to get stuck with the fendered cars. The mods will pay as much to win as the sprints this week. I get it from a promoters point of view(at the back gate), but for me if I travel to a sprint show I want to see the sprints as the headliner and not deal with the fendered classes. 2K to win isn't much for a traveling series. Come on guys... what does winged racing on Saturday night have to do with a show on Friday night? My statement meant no other winged racing in the area Friday night
