Mark Dobmeier – NSL Opener a Success!

(Bill W) April 13, 2014 – The FVP National Sprint League opener was a success for Mark Dobmeier and the Jimco Motorsports #13 team.  The Grand Forks, North Dakota driver took a top ten finish at34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa on Saturday night in his first trip to the 3/8-mile oval.  This Saturday night marks another opener.  This time, it’s the lid-lifter for Knoxville Raceway in Iowa.

Mark was happy about the way the inaugural show for the FVP NSL.  “It was impressive,” he says. “Whenever you put together something new like that it takes a lot of people to organize it.  It was pretty smooth all night long.  Overall, it was an excellent first showing.”

After timing in 14th quick amongst the 40 cars assembled, he would start third in his heat race.  “We kind of got stuck in the heat a little bit,” says Mark.  “We had to be patient with some cars there, and once we got going, I felt we had a really good car.  Once I got out on my own, we were in third, and we were able to run down Kaley Gharst, who had a pretty good gap built up on us in second.  We were able to take a stab at the end.  We were neck and neck at the line.”

The heat finish locked Mark inside row seven for the feature.  “We were decent,” he says.  “We just had the car a little tight at the beginning of the race.  I was shuffled back to 16th there at the beginning.  We got the charge going, and got back up to ninth.”

For a time, he was in the mix with several drivers, but settled for tenth at the checkers.  “On the last restart, Sammy (Swindell) snuck by me and we ended up in the tenth position,” says Mark.  “Overall, I was really happy with it.  We still have a new team and a new car.  We had a decent car and we were happy about that.  Before that late yellow, we were right there right behind (Brian) Brown, (Danny) Lasoski and (Steve) Kinser.  We were definitely alright, and we’re in the fine-tuning stage.”

Mark was also impressed with the 34 Raceway in general.  “They did a great job with the track all night long,” he says.  “I was really impressed with that.  For us, things weren’t perfect, but it was a nice solid run.  We’re looking forward to Knoxville’s opener.”

Lots of Talent, Lots of Fans, The smells of Race Food & Methanol, Sprint Car Wheelies from Hot Laps clear through the A-Main. An exciting fun filled night. Well done NSL..... I sure would have liked to see TMac come back and Win it after he spun with 7 to go but you can't complain when it's Wayne Johnson in Victory Lane either...
