going to make my first trip to Kville this year. Was looking at May. Any insight to the weather that time of year? Would August be better? A weekly show or NSL? Hotels in the area? My wife and I will be coming from Nashville and dont know that area at all. Thanks in advance

The only concern about coming in May is weather. We have most of our rain outs early in the year usually. Temps could be from 50's to 80's. You will see a great show regardless of the weekend. I think nearly all NSL drivers are running for Knoxville points also. Hotels will be no problem. The Super8 is within walking distance. Whatever you choose I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

We always stay in Pella when in for the races. Better variety of hotels but the Country Inn and Suites is where we stay, which I highly recommend. Weather is always a factor early in the season, Nashville is a long way to come from to get rained out.

If staying in Knoxville the new Cobble Stone Inn & Suites is first choice (phone: 641-828-6100) and second choice would be the Super 8 Motel (phone: 641-828-8808). The racing is great in May and June, you will not be disappointed. Also, if in town you will want to tour the Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum in town.

Look up the Knoxville and NSL scheduals, you might find a two race weekend at different tracks. You never know about rain as Iowa is probably about same as Nashville. Knoxville had 6 rain outs last year, I think 3 is about average. Newton is just north of Knoxville and have alot of motel rooms, but if you come during Nationals all motel rooms in Knoxville are probably already taken. Good luck.

I also live in Nashville and plan to hit up the May 15th NSL/MOWA show at Jacksonville and then onto Knoxville the next night.(Do at least the Nationals every year)

You're going to love everything about Knoxville. The track, the racing, the town itself, and that area of Iowa in general. Why not come in August and go to the Nationals? If you can make it in August, do that and you'll have four nights of racing. If you don't mind driving just a little bit, there are some good options within about 45 minutes of the track. The Prairie Meadows Hotel and Casino in Altoona is very nice. The Lakeside Casino and Hotel in Osceola is also about 45 minutes from the track. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you have a great time.

Like the others have said if your go in May, be ready for multiple weather conditions. A sweatshirt and maybe a jacket as well. We usually pay the Boy Scouts to park in the lot at Hy-Vee directly outside turn 1. (But if your staying in town most of the places are walking distance, although some are longer walks than others.) Even on the weekly shows we'll get there around 2 and go check out the Hall of Fame for awhile. Go watch the teams going into the infield for a bit then around 5-6 grab a meal and then head towards the stands. A stop into Dingus is also an idea. Its the definition of a dive bar, but a very cool one youd enjoy since your obviously a Sprint Car fan.

Track also has a parking lot up by barns on 3 and 4 corner I think for $5.oo. April weather is more tricky than May but one never knows, do a daily weather check for the week before you come.

You stated that you will be bringing your wife. You may want to look at staying in Des Moines. It is a very easy drive (a little under an hour), and it has a lot of decent shopping options that may keep your wife happy. The NSL events should be outstanding this year. Also, they have a double feature night. I went to a couple of years ago and it was great. I got to see Rico and Kyle Larson run twice that night.

Races are Great! I would also suggest you look at the Tulip Festival schdule in Pella. Believe it is May 6 through 9. Bridges of Madison County is also something to see.
Dirt is for racing. Asphalt is for getting there.
