While eastern racing closes in Central Pa today , I can't help but have thoughts of what might the future bring. While racing is doing well most everywhere , it becomes apparent to me one thing has to happen . 360 and 410 racing needs to take place on either 4/10ths or smaller tracks , the days of 1/2 mile tracks or bigger is gone . Yes, once in a while you do see a good race on a 1/2 mile track but not on a regular basis . And now new groups are popping up , I really wonder if this is good , instead of strengthing what already exists.

If you think the new groups are bad for sprint car racing then why in another post did you say you're going to support the Renegades? I think what the NSL is doing in the Midwest is nothing but good for sprint car racing. It gives the local drivers a chance to race for more money while staying within 8 hours of their homes and it gives us the fans to see more good sprint car racing without having to fly. What's the bad in that?
And Danny Schatz tried downsizing the 1/2 mile at RRVS in Fargo and didn't have much luck with that. SI I guess I am going to have to disagree. I think it comes down to the track surface and track prep. Brainard and Fergus Falls both have smaller tracks but do not tend to have very good races there but grand forks and Brandon tend usually have good shows. The last 2 are sprint car tracks weekly the first 2 were not but have hosted WoO shows a couple times the last 5 years. I really liked fargo when it was a half mile but also saw good shows there when it was a 1/3 or 3/8ths whatever they called it. And jackson mn is a half mile but I would rather drive right by it and head further south to Knoxville.

So let me get this straight. You've said many times that Port Royal is the best track in Pa yet you want to get rid of 1/2 miles? Sounds to me like you just want something to bitch about. But let's play with that idea. Just in PA alone if we eliminate 1/2 miles, we lose Williams Grove, Port and Selinsgrove so that means no more National open, no more Summer Nationals, no more Tuscarora 50 or Labor day therefore no more fair races at Port, no more Weikert Memorial, no more Ray Tilly Memorial or Jim Nace memorial and a significant chunk of speedweek is gone. Yeah, that's a hell of an idea. That should REALLY help sprint car racing. Seems pretty obvious to me that you my friend, haven't a damn clue.

I agree with alot of what you have said here , I donot want to downsize all 1/2 mile tracks and I certainly don't want to get rid of the season big events , but I am saying racing appears to get better on smaller tracks less then these big tracks . Track surfaces or track condition plays alot into weekly racing , just look at Wms grove not the same different every week , drivers were not happy about it there . So I do have a clue and do know whats going on , I have to choose my words more carefully because I'm not making myself clear on these issues . Opinion or choices are different on who is best at what , but right now Port to me cares more about you the fan by talking to them weekly and the improvements they are making . Actual racing differs at the different tracks as some prefer another track over another , Lincoln vs Port Royal for example . It appears to me containing speed can make a good race , that is why some tracks consider or downsize there track. I hope this clarifies what I'm saying ?

You must go to races at some real crappy 1/2 mile racetracks. I go to Knoxville Raceway every saturday night and see great racing week after week. It is more the quality of the track prep than the size of the racetrack that determines if you see a good race or not. If you were 10% the expert you think you are you would know that.

No I don't go too crappy tracks , the track prep does have alot to say what the race will be like , I 've been to knoxville as well not weekly but tfor te Nationals and I don't always see great racing during that time . But you probably do see better weekly . But the thing now is with these locked down winged 410's they get spread out , if they were freed up a bit you'd see even better racing but the drivers and WRG like it the way it is . I plan on taking in more non-wing racing , slower maybe but the driving is back in there hands . I am not saying that winged 410's are not good drivers , as I have alot of drivers who are my friends that are great drivers who I respect and admire . Racing years ago my friend was much better even with the wings as they were smaller , and so forth .It could be great again but people are happy the way it is . I just hope they keep tweaking the rules as it does appear to be getting better .

Tell me more about what racing was like years ago. I've only been going to races for the last 55 years. Hope you live in Indiana or California if you want to see a lot of non wing racing. I like both winged & non wing. But I am very happy I live close to Knoxville. If you don't like the show there you will not like racing anywhere. No matter where you go every now & then you will see a bad show. That is true with any kind of racing and in fact any sport. Last years Super Bowl is a good example. What would you be saying about the NFL now if you had spent $1500 for a ticket to attend that game.
Stop griping about the music, fan freebies and other crap and enjoy the racing.
The worst night I ever had at the sprint car races is better than the best night I ever had anywhere else.
Like Abe Lincoln said, we can complain that rose bushes have thorns or rejoice that thorn bushes have roses!

I too have been going to the races for over 50 years, and they have been mostly central PA race tracks. Tell me why the "good old days" were better and tell me about the races you saw that give you that opinion.

maybe he means back in the days when heat 1 was comprised of cars that were 2 sesonds a lap slower than the rest of the field and were lapped 3 times before the feature ended if they didnt blow up?
perhaps this clown is why some promoters do not listen to fans?
Lincoln 1845 ft/.35 mile T1=118MPH
Eldora 2287 ft/.43mile T3=135MPH
Port 2716 ft/.51 mile T3=TBD
Grove 2792 ft/.53 mile T3=135MPH
Selinsgrove 2847 ft/.54 mile T1=136MPH
