ARIZONA SPEEDWAY HOSTS $2,000-TO-WIN SHOOTOUT

PHOENIX, AZ – OCTOBER 27, 2014... This Saturday, the popular USAC SouthWest Sprint Cars will tackle Queen Creek’s Arizona Speedway for the final time in 2014. Located within ET Motopark, the $2,000-to-win, $225-to-start event sponsored by Amanda Whitney at American All Star Realty will also showcase Dwarf Cars, X-Mods, and the Robert Horne Ford Bombers. Entering the twentieth point race of the campaign, defending champion R.J. Johnson has claimed three of the last five races at Arizona Speedway. On May 10th, “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. earned the “Mother’s Day Race” win and Josh Pelkey took the checkered flags on July 12th. While Johnson leads all drivers with six USAC triumphs at ET Motopark, “The Magic Man” Mike Martin won the series debut on April 13, 2013.

Continuing his march to a second title, R.J. Johnson of Phoenix holds a 116-point lead over the competition. Piloting Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson earned his second hard charger award at Canyon Speedway Park on October 18th with a sixth place run from thirteenth. To date, the second generation driver has ten main event wins, thirteen heat race victories, twenty-seven top-10 finishes, and 202 feature laps led. R.J. will be looking for his twenty-second career series victory this Saturday night.

Peoria’s Josh Pelkey is second in the point standings. Driving Robbie and Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts Maxim, Pelkey raced to fifth after starting ninth at Canyon’s “Hank Arnold Memorial.” Currently, the 1997 ASCA Champion has four main event wins, five heat race victories, two hard charger awards, twenty-eight top-10 finishes, and 71feature laps led to his credit. Josh will have his sights on earning the $2,500 payday at Arizona Speedway.

“Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. of Buckeye is third in the championship points. Racing the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / MP Environmental RSS, Davis placed fourth at Canyon Speedway Park. To date, the five-time state champion has four feature wins, twelve heat race victories, one semi-main win, two hard charger awards, twenty-four top-10 finishes, and 122 feature laps led. “Chargin” Charles will be looking for the Queen Creek victory and gaining valuable championship points.

South Central’s Matt Rossi ranks fourth in the USAC SouthWest point chase. Piloting the family owned #02 Apache Scapes / Advanced Engine Components Spike, Rossi finished third in the October 18th “Hank Arnold Memorial.” Currently, the veteran driver has four heat race victories, two hard charger awards, sixteen top-10 finishes, and 28 feature laps led on the year. Matt will have his sights on his second career series win this Saturday at Arizona Speedway.

Shon Deskins of Phoenix sits fifth in the SouthWest point standings. Racing his #20 MP Environmental / Performance Plus Spike, Deskins scored ninth in the Canyon Speedway Park feature. Heading to Queen Creek, the veteran driver has one feature win, eight heat race victories, one hard charger award, twenty-one top-10 finishes, and 60 feature laps led. Shon will be looking to add Saturday’s winning trophy to his collection.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, “The Kid” Tye Mihocko, Michael Curtis, Andy Reinbold, Nick Aiuto, Brian Hosford, “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, Mike Colegrove, Stevie Sussex, Tom Ogle, Josh Shipley, Chris Bonneau, Mike Bonneau, Mark Morin, and more.

Arizona Speedway is located within ET Motopark at 47346 N. Ironwood Road in Queen Creek, Arizona. To get to the track, exit Ironwood Drive on US 60, then head four miles south.
