JOSH PELKEY WINS RICK STEWART MEMORIAL AT PRESCOTT VALLEY

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ – OCTOBER 12, 2014... Taking the lead from R.J. Johnson on lap twenty-six, Peoria’s Josh Pelkey won Saturday’s “Rick Stewart Memorial” at Prescott Valley Speedway. For Pelkey, the 40-lap feature win was his fourth USAC SouthWest Sprint Car triumph of the season. Matt Rossi, Stevie Sussex, “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, and “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. rounded out the top-five drivers.

Piloting Robbie & Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts Maxim, Josh Pelkey ran second to Stevie Sussex in his heat race and entered the feature ranked third in the nightly passing points. Starting fourth on the grid, the former ASCA Champion stormed to the Stewart Memorial victory. Win the Prescott Valley win, Josh has climbed to second in the standings with five heat race victories, two hard charger awards, twenty-seven top-10 finishes, and 71 feature laps led on the season.

Matt Rossi of Phoenix charged to second in the Prescott Valley feature after starting fifth. Racing the family owned #02 Apache Scapes / Advanced Engine Components Spike, Rossi won the night’s first 10-lap heat race and placed second in passing points. The veteran racer heads to Canyon Speedway Park ranked fourth in series points with four heat race victories, two hard charger awards, fifteen top-10 finishes, and 28 feature laps led.

Tempe’s Stevie Sussex raced from sixth to claim third in the Rick Stewart Memorial. Driving the #21AZ Stratis Construction / RSS Industries RSS, Sussex won the third 10-lap heat race and was the night’s high point driver heading to the feature. To date, Stevie is fifteenth in the point chase with two heat race victories, one hard charger award, seven top-10 finishes, and fifteen feature laps led in 2014.

“The Magic Man” Mike Martin of Yuma drove to fourth at Prescott Valley after starting ninth. Piloting his #16 PPG Professional Paints / Desert Building Materials Maxim, Martin placed fourth in his heat race and was seated ninth in passing points. Heading to Saturday’s “Hank Arnold Memorial,” the former “Hall of Fame Classic” winner is sixth in points with one feature win, four heat race victories, two semi-main wins, one hard charger award, eighteen top-10 finishes, and 31 feature laps led on the year.

Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. took fifth in the 40-lap Stewart Memorial after starting eighth. Racing the Massey Motorsports #50 RSS Industries / MP Environmental RSS, Davis ran third in his heat race and placed eighth in the nightly passing points. To date, the five-time state champion is third in points with four feature wins, twelve heat race victories, one semi-main win, two hard charger awards, twenty-three top-10 finishes, and 122 feature laps led.

R.J. Johnson of Phoenix raced to victory in the night’s second heat race. Driving Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson was fifth in passing points and led the first twenty-five laps before scoring sixth at the checkered flags. The point leader has ten feature wins, thirteen heat race victories, one hard charger award, twenty-six top-10 finishes, and 202 feature laps led in the campaign.

This Saturday, October 18th, the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series will return to action at Kevin Montgomery's Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona. The “Hank Arnold Memorial" will also feature Mini Sprints, Pure Stocks, and Dwarf Cars.
