I am glad to see the BGTS is still going to be fielding a 410, and they are committing to be at World Finals. While I live in the Northeast, I appreciate what Tod is doing for 410 racing and think that his new series, with the money it is offering, will help to keep 410 racing strong.
I hope that WRG can see past any rivalry that this may cause and realize that the more quality 410 teams there are the better it is for their series in the long run, because if up and coming drivers find quality rides and a stage to showcase their ability, it helps them on two levels.
1. It expands the locals vs. WoO rivalries when the circus comes to town which increases fan anticipation, car counts, etc.
2. Travelling the entire tour will still be the goal of any up and coming team or driver: to run full time with the big boys. Seasoned drivers and good teams are developed that can replenish the ranks of the WoO.
I hope Tod and WRG can work together on this, as WRG seems to like to try to squash competition, as can be seen the last week or so in Northeast modified racing with them trying to squeeze out a good regional promoter (if you don't know what I am talking about, look up recent postings about Brett Deyo and the scheduling requirements WRG has put in place at modified tracks in the NE).
The truth is, the WoO is not going to lose many drivers to a series that only runs 30-35 races a year, even with the money offered, because full time racers want to race, and the guys with the talent and resources will always want to race more than that. So if this is done right, it can be win-win. Strong regional racing helps a national touring series, it doesn't hurt it. (Example: 3 full time drivers, while not the most competitive on the WoO tour came out of PA, plus the CJB car was a local car that started to run the full time tour. Last years points champ kept his career afloat in a strong regional team when he had no WoO option...he might not be on the tour now if it wasn't for regional racing keeping him in the game). Ok this is too long a post, but you get the point.
