PRESCOTT VALLEY HOSTS 40-LAP RICK STEWART MEMORIAL THIS SATURDAY
By Lance Jennings

PHOENIX, AZ – OCTOBER 8, 2014... This Saturday, October 11th, the popular USAC SouthWest Sprint Cars will make their final appearance of the year at Prescott Valley Speedway. Hosted by General Manager Bugs Norbury, the 40-lap “Rick Stewart Memorial” will also showcase Mini Stocks, SCRA Factory Stocks, Prescott Valley Dwarf Cars, and the Copper State Mod Lites. The Pit Gate opens at 4:00pm, the Front Gates at 5:00pm, and Racing is scheduled for 7:00pm. For more event and ticket information, visit www.pvraceway.com or call 928.925.9858.

Heading to the eighteenth point race of the season, the rescheduled “Rick Stewart Memorial” will be the third race at the Yavapai County Fairgrounds. At the May 3rd debut, veteran Shon Deskins claimed his first series win and “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. took the checkered flags on June 28th. Unfortunately, rain washed away plans for the two-day Stewart Memorial in early August. This Saturday, a talented roster of drivers is expected at Prescott Valley with the goal of earning valuable championship points and adding the 3/8-mile oval to their win list.

While rain also claimed the September 27th “Brawl For It All,” R.J. Johnson of Phoenix sits atop the standings with a 130-point advantage. Racing Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson charged to third from tenth at Casa Grande on September 20th. The defending SouthWest Champion heads to Prescott Valley with ten feature wins, twelve heat race victories, one hard charger award, twenty-five top-10 finishes, and 177 feature laps led on the season. Johnson will be looking to claim his series leading twenty-second victory this Saturday night.

Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. is second in the point standings. Driving the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / MP Environmental RSS, Davis earned his fourth win of the season at Casa Grande’s Central Arizona Speedway. To date, the five-time state champion has twelve heat race victories, one semi-main win, two hard charger awards, twenty-two top-10 finishes, and 122 feature laps led to his credit. “Chargin” Charles will have his sights on gaining points on Johnson with another victory at Prescott Valley Speedway.

Josh Pelkey of Peoria ranks third in the championship point chase. Piloting Robbie and Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts Maxim, Pelkey took fourth in the September 20th main event. Entering Saturday’s race, the 1997 ASCA Champion has three feature wins, five heat race victories, two hard charger awards, twenty-six top-10 finishes, and 56 feature laps led in 2014. Josh will be looking to score his fifth career SouthWest triumph at Prescott Valley.

Phoenix’s Shon Deskins sits fourth in the USAC SouthWest point standings. Piloting his #20 MP Environmental / Performance Plus Spike, Deskins placed eighth at Casa Grande on September 20th. As this writing goes to press, the veteran racer has one feature win, eight heat race victories, one hard charger award, twenty top-10 finishes, and 60 feature laps led on the year. Shon will have his sights on claiming his second win of the campaign and climbing up the standings.

Matt Rossi of Phoenix is currently fifth in the point standings. Driving the family owned #02 Apache Scapes / Advanced Engine Components Spike, Rossi ran second to Johnson at Central Arizona Speedway. To date, the veteran racer has three heat race victories, two hard charger awards, and fourteen top-10 finishes in the campaign. On Saturday, Matt will be looking add the “Rick Stewart Memorial” to his resume.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, “The Kid” Tye Mihocko, Andy Reinbold, Michael Curtis, Nick Aiuto, Brian Hosford, Mike Colegrove, “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, Josh Shipley, Tom Ogle, Stevie Sussex, Mike Bonneau, Chris Bonneau, and more.

Prescott Valley Speedway is located on the Yavapai County Fairgrounds at 10501 Highway 89A in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Adult tickets (11 and up) are $18 and Kids tickets (10 and under) are FREE. For more event information, visit the track’s website at www.pvraceway.com or call 928.925.9858.
