Anyone have any information  on this race?

How many cars

Who might be racing

How is the track

Any thoughts help as thinking about making a drive down there.

I-35 is a well run 1/4 track.    It is what I would consider a good country track.   They have hosted USMTS and ASCS regional shows in the past.

I would expect 15-25 cars in each class.   The mini sprints car count may be an unknown.   It is hard to get a good read on how many cars are actually in the area or may be traveling.

thats a awful long 1/4 mile. it becomes very very slick at weekly shows but they may prep it different this week for the open wheel show

I live just 35 miles from the track. I don't believe it has ever had an ASCS show there. It runs USRA sanctioned stocks, modifieds and 1200cc Midwest Lightning Sprints. The track is owned by the same guy that owns Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City. They just added non-wing sprint cars once a month or so this year with car counts running from 7-15 cars from looking at the results page. This is an open-engine race like the WAR series has, but the weight limit is 1350 pounds, while the WAR has a 1500 pound weight limit.

There was a post on the WAR Facebook group a week or so ago about this race and quite a few of the WAR guys are going. The Hockett family is bringing two cars, Wyatt Burks (won the Friday night WAR portion of the Hockett-McMillin Memorial) and quite a few other WAR guys are going to be there. I'm thinking they'll have at least 20-25 cars since WAR won't be racing.

I've been kind of nervous about non-wing sprint cars being there because I don't know if the track would have a good enough safety crew to handle the situation of a bad non-wing sprint car crash. When safety crews only work with stock cars and modifieds I wonder if they are properly equipped, trained, etc. for handling sprint car accidents. But since the owner has had the Outlaws, ASCS and Sprint Bandits at Lakeside before then he'll know what kind of safety they'll need at I-35.

Should be a good night of racing, I haven't been to the track in some years because I'd rather drive the 100 miles to Knoxville to watch Sprints, than the 35 miles to I-35 for door bangers. The track measures at about 1/3 mile according to Google Earth. It's also got an interesting layout. The front stretch is very straight with a wide turns 1-2, the backstretch has a slight curve to it and turns 3-4 seem narrower than 1-2.

"Fastest track this siiiide of the Mississippi!"

heh

Pretty sure it's a 3/8. It's always dry slick. Supposed to get a good amount of rain Thursday so we'll see if that affects the surface any. I've only made a couple shows this season and missed the non wingers, but as Coltan said, expect the guys from the WAR series. 3 bumblebee classes may be too much but not much else going on (except the Royals in the ALCS) so I'll probably give it a shot one of the nights.

The Non Wing Sprints have raced several times at I-35 this year.  Most everyone that I have talked to said they liked the track.  It normally is pretty smooth.  I have seen it go dry slick and I have also seen it hold moisture for most of the night.  As far as the size, I run the same gear ratio at I-35 with my lightning sprint that I do at Grain Valley Speedway and Valley is more of a big 1/4 not a 3/8.

We have been receiving entries since the race was announced and I have had 7 or 8 calls today about the race format and were told by the people calling that they were coming but had not pre registered.

Weight rule is 1350 lbs w/driver and RR Tire rule is a medium compound and must durometer 42 or harder.  The rule on the entry form reads 46 or harder but it has been changed to 42.

It pays $1000 to win and $ 100 to start each nite.  B Feature non transfers will get $ 75.  The paydown is pretty good.  We have contingecy prizes from Eagle Motorsports, Keizer Wheels, ARS, Hyper, DMI and Rod End Supply so far.

If anyone has any questions:

They are rolling in the pit area at I-35 Speedway and we are on for Tonite and tomorrow nite.
