Brett Miller moves to 4th in points as final Chico point race looms ahead

By Gary Thomas

Chico, CA - August 18, 2007...With the end of the 2007 points race at Silver Dollar Speedway creeping closer, Chico’s Brett Miller has moved solidly into the fourth position in the Feather Falls Casino point standings. Brett and the Care Free Pools Racing team went into this past Friday’s event looking to move up in the points and did just that, even with an unfortunate incident that took away a possible podium finish.

After qualifying seventh fastest in the field of thirty-one 410 sprint cars, the 18 year-old brought home a fourth place finish in the second heat race to transfer the Platinum Powder Coating, Al’s Concrete, Jandy Pools, Care Free Graphics No. 1x into the main event.

The night’s fastest qualifier then pulled the number four pill for the inversion, which put Brett and last weeks winner Kyle Hirst on the front row. Brett was on outside though, and with the 1/4 becoming a one lane expressway on the bottom, he had to get to the bottom quickly. As the field rounded turn four looking at the green flag, Brett settled into third as the inside row moved forward with the increased traction on the low side of the speedway.

The Catfish ran in third throughout the early part of the race, but then began to hound Robby Whitchurch for second. A couple laps following a restart, an opening came forth and Brett took it, but off turn two it closed and resulted in both Brett and Whitchurch coming together. The Care Free Pools 1x bounced around and Brett was able to wrestle it back in but there was damage and after pitting to get it looked at, he pushed back out onto the track to rejoin the field. With the track not being very conducive to passing, the youngster had a tough path ahead. Doing the best he could as the race wore on he moved forward and got up to 12th by the finish.

This coming Friday will see Coca Cola/Napa Auto Parts/Cherry St. Mini Storage championship night as the 2007 Feather Falls Casino point season at Silver Dollar Speedway comes to a close. It seems like it was just yesterday that we opened the season and although it hasn’t been the kindest to Brett and team, the year has been full of experience building moments. With all the point racing done after next week, it’ll be time to focus on the number of season ending special shows. Care Free Pools Racing would like to thank all our sponsors who have supported us this season and we look forward to finishing the season strong.
