New chassis helps Morton pick up 2nd OCRS victory
Points race tightens up

Pocola, Oklahoma (September 5, 2014) - A new chassis was just what the doctor ordered for Chance Morton on Friday night.

The Coweta youngster was in a new maxim chassis after damaging the old chassis the week before at Caney Valley Speedway. The difference was like night and day for Morton who drove to his second OCRS victory of the season at Tri-State Speedway.

“We knew the car should work pretty good,” said Morton of his newly assembled Morton Excavating sprinter. “We just got this car put together and I really like it.”

Morton started inside second row in the 25-lap main event and moved to second on lap three behind leader Kyle Clark. But on lap nine Glen Passmore made a move from third to pass Morton and Clark for the lead in his GAP Roofing number 69.

For the next three laps Passmore set the pace then gave the lead up to Morton.

“My car was really nice. I could run it all over,” smiled Passmore. “It was fast. There is nothing I can complain about. I got tired. I just gave out and let the 7 car (Morton) around me.”

After Passmore shot into the lead Morton passed Clark for second and challenged Passmore at the start-finish line on lap 11. Morton charged into the lead and stayed there till the checkered.

“The car seemed to come in a little bit,” Morton said of his move to the lead. “We kept pushing it and pushing it. We slid up a little bit but got it back down.”

Passmore was able to hold down the second spot for his best finish of the season.

Johnny Kent passed Alex DeCamp for third after a lap 13 restart and made it a three-car race in the closing laps but settled for third. Andrew Deal and Mickey Walker rounded out the top five.

Deal was able to tighten up the points race with his fourth place run. Deal came into the night trailing points leader Danny Smith by 14. In his heat race Deal chipped one point off Smith’s lead. In the feature Smith finished two spots back in sixth which enabled Deal to cut the lead to just seven going into next weeks Oklahoma State Championship event at Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada.

Andrew Deal (15d) & Danny Smith (5$) are in the hottest points battle in OCRS history.
