With 27 410's, 31 358's and 36 Super Sportsman, there were 95 open wheel cars at the Lincoln Speedway and they put on a hell of a show.

Brian Montieth scored his 43rd career victory at Lincoln moving him up to 6th all-time in wins at the 3/8th mile. He did so in impressive fashion coming from the 11th starting spot.

A new champion was crowned in the 410 division, as Alan Krimes won his 1st career Lincoln Speedway track championship. Alan qualified for every single 410 race at the track this season including an All-Star invasion as well as 2 World of Outlaw invasions. He scored an impressive 3rd place run against the World of Outlaws in the July race.

I don't know many family-owned programs that build their own motors and are competitive. But the Krimes team has always built their own motors and they have had their program working real good this year. Alan is also currently 4th in Williams Grove points and has scored 3 top 10's in 4 WoO races there this year.

Some may know, but for those who don't I am very close with Alan and the team and this track championship meant a lot to me and a large amount of fans at the Lincoln Speedway. The party in the parking lot didn't wrap up until around 2am as a celebration with the team and fans took place following the championship. Alan has personally helped me through some rough patches and has become one of my best friends; I was the one that nominated him for Winged Nation's Kick It Up Driver of the Week for his off-track actions. Congrats to Alan. He was the hard-charger for the 2nd consecutive night coming from 19th to 5th tonight.

Heat race action was spectacular particularly in the Sporstman division, but the highlight of the heats was in heat 1 of the 410's with Brandon and Freddie Rahmer going wheel to wheel for the final invert spot that saw Brandon edging his brother at the line and Freddie spinning into the outside fence as he crossed the checkered. Fantastic racing from two drivers that you will hear a lot from in the coming years. Unfortunately, Freddie got caught up in a wreck in the feature ending his night on lap 1. Brandon finished 11th.

Ryan Wilson led the first 14 laps. Steve Owings took the lead on lap 15 and led until Brian Montieth took the top spot away on lap 21 in traffic.

After the red on lap 1, the following 24 laps went caution-free.

The rivarly between Brent Marks and Danny Dietrich was delayed an evening as Marks went to Port Royal and Dietrich was at Lincoln.

The Mackison's returned for the 1st time since last year and Jordan looked real strong in his heat race before coming to a halt while in the lead. He returned but ended the night with a DNQ. Hunter made the show, but was chasing the car all evening. URC product Brian Carber made his 410 debut in Central Pennsylvania and didn't look out of place at all, comfortably transfering through the heat race and finishing 15th in the feature. Carber is related to former 410 local Mike Carber - who now works on Daryn Pittman's team on the WoO tour.

It was a caution-filled evening mostly in the 358 and Sportsman division including a 20-minute delay in the 358 feature due to two cars being stuck together in turn 2.

National Sprint Car Rookie of the Year hopeful Austin Hogue pulled into the infield while running 7th with about 10 to go. Tough break for the 52 team.

Top 10 from Lincoln: 1. Montieth (11) 2. Owings (6) 3. Wilson (2) 4. Haas (8) 5. Krimes (19) 6. Boland (4) 7. B Dietrich (5) 8. Siegel (10) 9. D Dietrich (12) 10. Kendall (20)  - A fantastic feature that only saw 1 stoppage (on lap 1) and showcased the strengths of Lincoln racing with 3 distinct grooves proved by only 1 driver starting in the top 5 finishing there.

Promising youngster Chandler Leiby won the 358 feature and veteran Russ Mitten won the Sportsman feature.

From Port Royal:

First and foremost - Prayers are needed for Mike Wagner Sr. who was airlifted to Hershey for surgery after shattering a lumbar vertabrae per his son.

Mike, who entered the night as the Port Royal points leader, destroyed his own 55 car in the heat race and, in an effort to save his points night, jumped into his son Logan Wagner's RG3 and was involved in another nasty accident. A rough night for Mike, hopefully things go smoothly and we can see him back on the track in no time.

On a more positive note, New Yorker and former ESS champion turned Pennsylvania local Justin Barger won at Port Royal holding off Greg Hodnett, Rick Lafferty, Nate Snyder and Davey Sammons. Barger has run with us each and every week and has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season including a win at Susky and 2 heat race wins against the World of Outlaws at the Grove. He has quickly become a fan-favorite in Central PA and his T-shirt sales speak to that. Hopefully he and the 5 team continue to make the trek down to PA for years to come.

Up next for the Posse is the always emotional Billy Kimmel Memorial Sunday night at the Grove and back to Port Royal Monday for the annual Labor Day Classic.

Unfortunately, school is calling and I will be hanging up the race counter until the Dirt Classic and National Open! Thanks for reading!

Until next time...

AC
