BLOOMINGTON SPEEDWAY TO PRESENT THE SUMMER DOUBLER
Haubstadt, IN - August 13, 2014 - The Bloomington Speedway will be racing this Friday night August 15th and the Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will be in the house once again. This will be the second visit to “the World’s Fastest Red Clay Quarter Mile” for the series this season. The first stopover in May drew over 40 sprints. A MSCS race last weekend also drew over 40 cars. Whatever the count the racing will be fast and furious as always. It has been 8 years since MSCS made its’ first appearance at the track and that initial race was also held in August. In the six races held during the second half of the season since then, veteran Jon Stanbrough has won four of them. Brian Clauson and Chris Windom also picked up victories in recent years. The feature this Friday night will pay $3,000 to win and $200 to start. Tow money should help offset expenses for drivers not making the 20 car starting field. Race teams are reminded that the pill draw is set to close at 6:15 P.M. A second winning streak has manifested itself within the series. Brady Short of Mitchell, IN, has won two MSCS features in a row. The win two week’s ago was one of those very close races. The win last week was a dominating run. He seems to be gaining momentum! The two victories have increased his career win mark with MSCS to 10. He is the second driver this year to reach that double digit win level. Short will also now have an opportunity to become this season’s second three peat winner. Robert Ballou was the first to do so earlier in the season. Another driver returning to MSCS competition recently is Kevin Thomas Jr. Thomas put together a hot streak in 2013 in which he won four out of seven feature races held. He won the main at every other race. The evening’s program at Bloomington is being promoted as the “IU Surplus Store Summer Doubler.” The track points for competitors in all divisions will be doubled. The season there is winding down! MSCS awards the same amount of series points at each and every race conducted during the season. With 70 points being the maximum that an MSCS driver can earn at one event, a glance at the standings will reveal lots of opportunities for drivers to move up. Kyle Cummins leads Robert Ballou by 38 points in the championship drive. Ballou gained 11 points racing on the 9th. Drivers that gained positions in the top ten include Jeff Bland Jr., Brady Short, and Daylan Chambers. Short moved up two spots in the standings and is now fifth. Bloomington Speedway is located at 5185 South Fairfax Road to the south of the city. Racing begins at 7:30 P.M., E.D.T. Hot laps begin an hour earlier. The program will also include modified, super stock, and hornet divisions. Racing is promoted by Bloomington Speedway Partners LLC.
Upcoming events on Labor Day Weekend place the Midwest Sprint Car Series at Brownstown Speedway on August 30th and Tri-State Speedway on August 31st. The two tracks are both quarter mile ovals. Race fans can follow MSCS competitors for two consecutive nights - Saturday and Sunday!
