Thats disappointing to me. I liked the thought of them all still be ran during the night time. I think the Dunkins could have easily had the track ready again for the second session and still in good shape too. Did todays light rain make them change their minds?

Don't like it either.  Hate the old Friday format.  Won't be going to that now.

I don't know--just heard on 92.1.  I am still 5 hours away!  Not leaving until tomorrow morning so for me, it is a great thing--I get to see 3 shows in the two days I am there!  I agree with you though--should have run both shows as planned tonight I think--weather for Friday and Saturday could change at any moment!

I don't give a damn how they get it done or what format they run. Just get it done. I drove from So california to watch the best winged sprint car drivers in the world race. And I'm going to enjoy myself . Go Knoxville Raceway and thank you for putting this show on.

We need more sprint car racing at our home track.

3 Years ago @ Knoxville 360 CI nationals, they ran the Thursday/Friday night qualifiers all in 1 big show with nearly 100 cars after the Thursday show was rained out. The Thursday & Friday group were still broken down into 2 groups with 10 heats 2 C-Mains, 2 B-Mains & 2 A-Mains.

Not a big fan of Saturday show.  4 Years ago at the 50th Nationals the Friday non-qualifier show was rained out & run on Saturday afternoon. Hard on tires & not a lot of passing. Only 4 races were run that afternoon (2 semi features, A Main & Australian Challenge)

Why are they going back to the old format for the Friday Show? I loved the new format where it gave all the teams a second chance to make the A-Main.  Total bummer they are having to readjust that!

Becauase the track is likely to be fairly lousy for Saturday afternoon.

Maybe knoxville should consider starting on tuesday then in case of a rain out they got a extra day in case they need it. Sounds sort of radical but this sucks for everybody. That friday night race with the new format is the best thing they ever did for friday nights....sucks for the teams and fans

I don't envy the track in these weather situations.  It's like triage balancing the best interests of the fans, competitors, track prep, etc. in the midst of ever changing weather outlooks.

For the 360 nats TH/FR are both qualifying nights so when TH was rained out you can't really sacrifice one of them to Saturday afternoon.  Running both together on the same night was not ideal (I.e.  TT conditions across 100 cars) but a better option than one group qualifying at night and moving the other to a day time race.

For the 410's, the Friday event is the lowest priority.  They were originally hoping to do the qualifying nights as 2 separate shows back-to-back tonight which was the best option to preserve all three shows at night.  But I'm sure as they've continued to monitor the forecast (does not look past mid-night) they realize it is not probable to get both shows in tonight and are now making the next move.

You could run both shows together like they had to with the 360's.  This would save the time of reworking the track between shows and might let you get both in before mid-night tonight.  But, again, that's less than ideal and I'm guessing the competitors would choose having 2 stand alone qualifying nights with the best conditions for their shot at making the show rather than preserving the non-qualifiers show to be on Friday night.

As a fan I don't want a Saturday afternoon show...but I certainly understand why it may be the best option for everyone involved when weather conditions dictate.

Where did you see they were using the old format for the Saturday afternoon show?  Sounded to me like it would be the same thing they would have run on Friday had they run it then.

I have never been to a day time Winged Sprint Car race.  So my question is how could this hurt the Knoxville Nationals?

Dry, dusty track=little to no passing.  Means that guys that could be fast can't get to the front to start higher in the mains.  Track will take a bunch of rubber more than likely too, making it harder to rework it for Saturday night.  But, with the 11 a.m. start, should be done by 2 and give time for a complete rework.  In all honesty, the chance of a guy racing on Saturday morning/afternoon making the A is very slim anyways, but it's part of the appeal of the Nats that everybody's got a shot.

The rubber goes down fairly quickly if it's sunny and breezy.   hopefully they add laps to the C on sat Nite.  Nothing worse than it being narrow

More weight, more regulation, more similarity in the
cars.... that will ensure plenty of thrills for years
to come. Only the most average talent behind the
wheel will be needed with such awesome equipment on
the track!

Looking at track not sure they could run two shows tonight.  My guess is they won't be racing until 9.  Mudfest.

I like the idea of start Tuesday.  If all goes well take Friday off and party.  If not you have the make up date.
