Despite a downpour that would have put any racetrack out of business The Central Auto Racing Boosters Hall of Fame put on the GREATEST PICNIC EVER yesterday at the Don and Donna Marrs Farm in Shawnee KS.Though most of the credit has to go to our hosts,the Marrs family,it is the Christie family that did the majority of the actual "grunt work" because they prepared AND served a magnificent meal from which many carried home elaborate "doggy bags".
Every CARB member that wasn't able to be there will surely want to grab their calendar to mark the date of next year's Hall of Fame Legends Picnic and those that aren't members will want to consider becoming one just to be sure that they don't miss out on the coming attractions.
The Hall of Fame Museum will be up and running in a month and then we will be able to really put our best foot forward.Terry and Claudia Bivins attended yesterday and delivered more artifacts for the museum including the uniform that Terry wore in the Daytona 500, where he went up against the BIG MONEY DRIVERS and put on quite a show with worn out tires and a team formed up of their racing buddies.We were there with the Ellis Family watching when Terry's number went to the top of the lighted scoreboard as the LEADER ! What a thrill that was when we all said "I KNOW THAT KID !"
From the indomitable Karen Darling and husband,Rick,to the INCOMPERABLE Carla Layne and husband, Bobby, the planning and preparation could not have been more meticulous.Every last officer and board member gets to step up and accept the applause of a grateful racing community and today will launch the next big fundraiser which is only 3 weeks away.
So even as most race tracks are looking at their year end events,we in the Kansas City area are fortunate in that we have the Central Auto Racing Boosters setting up for the off season and what that can mean to perpetuate this sport we love so much.And just in case I didn't make my point:
PLEASE TAKE A BOW,CARB HALL OF FAME ! WE ARE PROUD TO HAVE YOU REPRESENT US ! AND GO GET 'EM.
