PRESCOTT VALLEY HOSTS RICK STEWART MEMORIAL DOUBLEHEADER

PEORIA, AZ – JULY 29, 2014... Starting this Friday, August 1st, the USAC SouthWest Sprint Car Series will battle for two nights of action at Prescott Valley Speedway. Hosted by General Manager Bugs Norbury, the highly anticipated “Rick Stewart Memorial” will also showcase Mini Sprints, Challenge Cup Sprint Cars, and Vintage Cars. The Pit Gate opens at 4:00pm, the Front Gates at 5:00pm, and Racing is scheduled for 7:00pm.

Heading to the thirteenth and fourteenth point races, the “Rick Stewart Memorial” will mark the third and fourth of five appearances at the Yavapai County Fairgrounds. At the May 3rd debut, veteran Shon Deskins claimed his series win and “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. took the checkered flags on June 28th. A talented roster of drivers is expected at Prescott Valley Speedway with the goal of adding the 3/8-mile oval to their win list.

After claiming his fifth victory of the year last Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park’s “Summer Slam,” R.J. Johnson of Phoenix has 44-point advantage over the competition. Piloting Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, the defending champion also has seven heat race victories, one hard charger award, sixteen top-10 finishes, and 91 feature laps led. Johnson will be looking to continue his championship bid with the “Rick Stewart Memorial” victory.

Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. is second in the point chase. Driving the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / MP Environmental RSS, Davis scored tenth at the “Summer Slam” after a flip ended his night. To date, the five-time state champion has three main event wins, ten heat race victories, sixteen top-10 finishes, and 102 feature laps led on the season. “Chargin” Charles will have his sights on sweeping the doubleheader at Prescott Valley Speedway.

Josh Pelkey of Peoria ranks third in the championship point standings. Racing Robbie and Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts Maxim, Pelkey ran seventh at Canyon Speedway Park after starting tenth. Currently, the 1997 ASCA Champion has three feature wins, three heat race victories, two hard charger awards, eighteen top-10 finishes, and 54 feature laps led to his credit. Josh will be looking gain valuable points by winning the “Rick Stewart Memorial.”

Phoenix’s Shon Deskins sits fourth in the USAC SouthWest point chase. Piloting his #20 MP Environmental / Performance Plus Spike, Deskins claimed third last Saturday night. At press time, the veteran racer has one feature win, four heat race victories, twelve top-10 finishes, and 30 feature laps led on the year. Shon will have his sights on claiming his second SouthWest win and climbing up the point standings.

Matt Rossi of Phoenix is currently fifth in the point standings. Driving the family owned #02 Apache Scapes / Advanced Engine Components Spike, Rossi led 28 laps at Canyon before taking second at the finish line. To date, the veteran has two heat race victories, two hard charger awards, and ten top-10 finishes in the campaign. Matt will be looking to sweep the “Rick Stewart Memorial” at Prescott Valley.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, “The Kid” Tye Mihocko, Andy Reinbold, Mike Colegrove, “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, Nick Aiuto, Michael Curtis, Josh Shipley, Brian Hosford, Tom Ogle, Stevie Sussex, Mark Morin, Mike Bonneau, Chris Bonneau, and more.
