AT&T installed a tower a while back...and Verizon put up a temporary tower in recent weeks.
|
I was there last Saturday night for the All Star Speedweek, and my Verizon service was awful, as was some others I talked to about it. Maybe the temp tower was just for the Dream and they took it back down?

Same here. The only place i have ever been able to get reception is behind the restrooms by the fence at that place with verizon. Doesn't bother me much though as usually I don't need to get ahold of anyone at the races. I normally have to turn off my phone though because it kills the battery just searching for service.

Seems like the last thing I read was that the tower was in plance and now they were waiting to run fiber optic to it. So I assume that means it hasn't been activated yet.

I dont understand the worry over cell service. Im there to watch the race. I dont face book or tweet so that is no prob for me. When did the pound sign # become a hash tag. Where the hell did the term hash tag come from anyhow?

I don't either, but personally speaking, my wife hates the races, so I go by myself and I like to be able to stay in touch. Many years ago, back in the days of pagers - if you're old enough to remeber those things! - I had to leave the track for an emergency at home during the races.
Just nice to know she can get ahold of me - or vice versa if a sprint car runs me over or lands on top of me!!

The last time I was there was 1996 and it would be another 3 years before I bought my first cell phone. I seriously doubt there was anything for cell phone users in that area back then. Somehow we survived. Hell - we had to drive 10 miles and pay $5 to take a shower back then. They probably have showers there now.

I remember waiting in lines behind a row of about 6 Pay Phones behind Knoxvilles Grandstands waiting to call the Wifey. Ahhh the good old days... I still never carry a cell phone unless I am away from home on a trip.

I also spoke with a member of the Hephner Racing Team for Greg Hodnett and as of last night they were still uncertain about their plans for next weekend.

That list looks good to me. I want 60 cars, (6) 10 car heats. And I hope it rains donkeys one county to the east on Country Cornhole in the Hills. Peace.

60 Cars would be badass, and honestly I think it is very possible.
