CHRIS AGAJANIAN NAMED GRAND MARSHAL OF U.S. SPEEDWAY LONGTRACK CHAMPIONSHIP!
(Perris, CA, June 20, 2014) Perris Auto Speedway promoter Don Kazarian is pleased to announce that Chris Agajanian has been named Grand Marshal of the American Motorcycle Association sanctioned “United States Speedway Motorcycle Longtrack Championship” at Perris Auto Speedway on July 19th. It will be the only time motorcycles compete at the famous Riverside County racing facility in 2014. The race will take place in California for only the second time since the closing of legendary Ascot Park in Gardena in 1990. Ascot was the home of the race for years and it was promoted by J.C. Agajanian and his sons Cary, J.C. Jr, and Chris himself. The race was annually one of the highlights and most prestigious events on the American Speedway calemdar. Run on the half-mile track at Ascot, the race was the only time riders could get on a big track after riding the tiny So Cal Ovals all season long. Like last year, this year’s race will be run on The PAS inner quarter-mile, which is much larger than all three of the weekly Southern California Speedway Motorcycle tracks. Last year’s U.S. Longtrack championship at The PAS was won by Corona’s Gino Manzares who is now a first year star for the Ipswich Witches in England’s Premiere League.
“It will be a pleasure to have Chris Agajanian as Grand Marshal of the only motorcycle race at The PAS in 2014,” Kazarian said. “Chris grew up around the racetrack with his brothers, learning the business from their father. He literally did everything there was to do at the track from selling programs, popcorn, manually operating the scoreboard and taking tickets. When the time came, he proved to be a “chip off the old block” and was a very successful promoter just like his father. When you think of the name Agajanian, you think of racing and great promotions.”
In addition to the United States Longtrack championship, Ascot promoted weekly Speedway races on the inner quarter-mile in the 1970’s into the early 1980’s. However, Chris Agajanian took a mighty step forward in 1985 when he opened Ascot South Bay Stadium on the northeast corner of the Ascot property, The ultra-modern facility was the home of Thursday night Speedway Motorcycle racing until the entire Ascot facility closed in 1990.
“Chris built Ascot South Bay Stadium and it took Speedway racing in Southern California to a whole new level,” Kazarian said. “With the exception of Costa Mesa, most of the tracks in Southern California, were Spartan like to say the least. South Bay Stadium was a jewel. It had day time bright lights, a fabulous sound system, safe walls years before NASCAR and Indy tracks did and the track had a wide variety of food. It was the place to watch races and to be seen on Thursday nights.”
Agajanian also took Speedway to the masses with his television show “Speedway America.” It started locally on KDOC channel 56. He then took the show to the Prime Ticket Network and finally ESPN exposing the sport to millions of new fans from one end of the country to the other.
“The show was a giant step forward for the sport,” Kazarian said. “It started local and went national. Chris was always thinking big when it came to his track and the sport. That paid dividends for everyone involved. When Ascot closed in 1990, everyone thought the show was over. That is, everyone but Chris. He took it to Costa Mesa in 1991.”

Camping for all events at The PAS is available for $25.00 per night. The campground will open at noon on Friday. Tailgating in the spectator parking lot will begin at 1:00 PM for all PAS events as well.
