HIROSHIMA WINS NMRA-TQ MAIN @ BAKERSFIELD – By Tim Kennedy
Bakersfield, CA., May 17 – Bruce Hiroshima won his second NMRA-TQ 25-lap main event of 2014 in round four of 12 Saturday night at the third-mile clay Bakersfield Speedway. The 51-year old driver from Camarillo drove his own No. 5 Stewart/Clerc Honda from fourth starting position to victory in a multi-division racing program. He moved up a notch on the p[points ladder from third to second and is only five points behind the leader.
West Evans started and finished second in his own Spike chassis with a Bob Wirth-built 750cc Suzuki. Kenny Wiley started and finished third in his self-built No. 96 TQ midget with Honda power. Point leader Anthony Lopiccolo started fifth and placed fourth in a Stealth/Kawasaki owned by his father Paul. Pole starter Scott Dobson subbed for absent Chuck West in the Evans Stealth/Bob Wirth 750cc Suzuki and drove it to fifth.
Britt Grissom started and finished sixth and was the last driver on the lead lap. Dave Lambert, with 24 laps, and Doyle Mosley, with 23 laps completed, followed. Mosley is the brother of the late Indy 500 driver Mike Mosley. Adam Baker, of Taft, made his first start of the year. The 2011 NMRA -TQ rookie of the year dropped out on lap 5 for ninth position.
Lopiccolo and Evans won the pair of eight lap heat races. The next NMRA race will be the Ron Otto memorial event on Saturday, June 7 at Santa Maria Speedway.
