Anyone aware of why the World of Outlaws don't run at the Dodge County fairgrounds? Best sprint car racing in Beaver Dam IMO. IRA puts on a hell of a show there. I think the Outlaws would put on a FANTASTIC show. I have heard rumors that Beaver Dam Raceway has something to do with it, but I am not sure if that is true or not. But I feel a Friday show at the fairgrounds, and Beaver Dam raceway (3 miles down the road) on the next day would make good sense. Any info anyone has on this, please share

I'm sure  two day weekend at tracks three miles apart SEEMS like a good idea to a fan, but what time has proven is that all it does is split the crowd among two venues rather than filling one.  (For instance, SUPPOSE 5000 people have been attending the WoO races at Beaver Dam Raceway.  Instead of both tracks having 5000 people that weekend, the most likely scenario would be both tracks having 2500.)  IF there were ever races at both tracks the same season, it would probably have to be one track with a spring show and the other with a fall event, but I honestly doubt Beaver Dam is a big enough population base to support more than one WoO show per year. (We've tried racing at Bever Dam Raceway twice in a season a couple of times.  It just didn't work as well as having one show and keeping it special.)

And now for my personal opinion:  I'll take WoO on a track like Beaver Dam over ANY half mile.  (And yes, I've seen sprint cars at Dodge County.)

Thanks Johnny! I suppose that makes sense. But I do know that race in Beaver Dam attracts fans from all over the state. I know a couple people that drive 2+ hours each way for that show. If I had to guess only about 10% (maybe less) of the fans at Beaver Dam raceway for the Outlaws show are actually from Beaver Dam. I enjoy the bull rings as well, but as far as the fairgrounds go, its one of my favorite half miles. It usually isn't you typical half mile racing. Have seen cars go side by side for laps at a time there. I think if anything, the fairgrounds might not be able to accomodate the amount of fans the Outlaws usually bring in. At least at Beaver Dam people can sit in the pits grandstands, and on the grass hill on the front straight etc

I agree I do not think there is enough seats at Dodge County to pay the bill for a Woo show. Bring them to 141, now that would be a show but still probably not enough seats.

Its too bad that there are so many facilites that cannot support a World of Outlaws show for seating. Wisconsin has some real GEMS. Antigo is a BAD FAST joint. I have never seen one speck of dust come off that track. Rice Lake produces some great sprint car races as well. Same with Superior. I am getting very excited for the USAC National sprint cars to make the trip to Superior next month. I am very curious to see how the show at Angell Park goes for IRA this weekend. If the racing is good, maybe the Outlaws would make a trip there in the future? Angell Park should be able to support enough fans for an Outlaws show

Seating capacity at BIG BEAVER is one of the reasons, the other is the sanctioning fee, it might be a little to steep for the Fair Board. I disagree with Gibson, if you ran a 2 day show at both tracks, not only would you get huge car counts, but the grandstands would be full to capacity on both nights. The Chicago metro area is only a 2 hour drive. Milwaukee is only a little over 1 hour.

If it were such a foregone conclusion, someone would've made it happen. This would really oversaturate the area doing a back-to-back weekend.

I have to agree with you more than Gibson.  I know if both tracks held 5000 people, you would not get 5000 each night.  But to say that you would only get 2500 per night at each track would just not be accurate either.  I for one, would make the 2 hour drive to one or the other and stay the extra night to catch 2 nights of racing for one drive.  I would not be alone either.   Just my two cents.  I'm sure they have very good reasoning for doing what they do.

With SLS being from that area you would have thought it would have happened by now IF they thought it could work, those guys are pretty sharp and put on races all over the place.....

Even if both tracks got more than 2500, is it fair to the track that's been on the schedule for years and has been getting 5000 (again, this is just a random figure--I have no idea how many actually attend the races at Beaver Dam) to say "we're going to schedule a race 3 miles down the road the same weekend and take a percentage of your crowd away"?

There are definitely some cool tracks in WI.  I'd love to see a WoO return to Plymouth, or a show at Oshkosh.  (I've never been to 141 or Superior, but I've heard good things about both.)  Again, seating and market saturation are big concerns.  And as much as we, as fans, would like to see races at certain tracks, another possibility is that those tracks don't want to or are unable to take the risk of booking a show.   (Is there potential to make big $ off an outlaw show?  Absolutely! But. . . a situation where it's raining everywhere EXCEPT at the track on race day is all it takes for a promotor to lose big $ too. )

Stealth, I couldn't agree with you more. and I've thought this myself for years. Dodge County is my favorite track from a pure speed standpoint. discounted tickets for buying both nights would encourage people. People in WI will camp anywhere too! could work out well.

lots of good points brought up here. Dodge County doesn't have nearly the facilities, seating of Beaver Dam. I've also heard drivers mention the lighting isn't great at Big Beaver.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say WI would love to host the WoO as much as possible! (not to mention MOWA, All-Stars, etc.) was great to have the Wilmot show added this year. I will be surprised if they (WoO) aren't racing at 141 within 5 years. Dirt track racing in general seems to be thriving as of late here. Let's hope it keeps up. Steve Sinclair and all the tracks/promoters deserve credit.

Wisconsin speedweeks anyone?

I would say Plymouth would be the next in line for another WoO show. Once they get the new surface ironed out, it's gonna be fantastic for 410's. Pair up a WoO show with one of Road America's marquee weekends, and it would be a great weekend destination. Even when the WoO was at Plymouth for their lone appearance there, the place was packed. Plenty of hotels, food joints, camping, etc. in the area. My vote is to drop either the May Jacksonville or Tri-State dates for next year, and pair up Plymouth and Wilmot for back to back nights. Make it happen Johnny! wink

The shorter the track[ 1/4 mile minimum] the better the racing. One of the best WOO races I ever saw was at Boone Ia.Sammy was in the black TMC car so it has been many years but it was non stop action. The really good drivers could start in the back and still win of course they dont unless they have a bad night. You dont realize how good some of them are until you witness a run like Schatz had at Nationals. As much as I love Knoxville starting up front is usually a big advantage due to the clean air.I dont think there is a better weekly field anywhere as good as Knoxville this year as there are at least 6 cars that could run near the front at WOO shows just cant or dont want to travel. If you are not in top 5 it doesnt pay enough even with the outlaw show up money.

Oh man! Wouldn't a speed week be awesome?!?!

Rice Lake, Jim Falls, Superior, Ashland, 141, Antigo, Superior. I have seen GREAT sprint car features at all these places over the past couple years. I am very excited for Sunday night at Angell Park. Although as of right now the weather isnt looking the best. Really hope they get that show in

I admit that I haven't been to any of the tracks in WI outside of the ones that are within 2 hours drive of milwaukee. hoping to remedy that soon. lots of great places to camp all over WI. will take your fond words for Antigo in to account for future plannins, STealth.

Try and make it to Cedar Lake sometime. Usually an awesome show! Plenty of camping grounds at the track as well. Usually the Richert Memorial is a good one.

superior is a nice track, they claim its 3/8 but it really is a half mile track, so if you like speed that is the place up north that you would want to go to, if you can make it to cedar for the jerry richert memorial i would go, haven't been disappointed by it yet plus it's always interesting to see who will make it as it pulls in some big names, wouldn't be surprised to see dollansky there this year along with some of the normal invaders such as heskin, dobmeier, tatnell, whitney, and a few others, but back on topic just be happy with the shows you got, heck the majority of the 410 shows i get to see are a 2+ hour drive one way
