BRUCE BROMME JR. NAMED GRAND MARSHAL OF 19^TH ANNUAL BUDWEISER OVAL NATIONALS! 

(Perris, CA, May 23, 2014)  At the last Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car race at Perris Auto Speedway, promoter Don Kazarian announced to the crowd that National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Bruce Bromme Jr. will be the Grand Marshal of the 19^th Annual Budweiser Oval Nationals, presented by All Coast Construction, on November 6^th, 7^th and 8^th.     

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that Hall of Fame sprint car crew chief Brice Bromme Jr. is the Grand Marshal of this year’s Budweiser Oval Nationals,” Kazarian said.  “Over the years we have had racers, officials, owners and fans as Grand Marshal, but we have never had a crew chief. Bruce is one of the best sprint car crew chiefs in the history of the sport.  He is virtually a living legend and his expertise is known across the nation. “ 

Born in 1951, Bromme was helping his father Bruce Sr. and Grandfather Louis in the race shop from the time he learned how to crawl.  As a child, he raced quarter midgets in the cul de sac by his house against lifelong friend and fellow National Sprint Car Hall of Famer Dean Thompson.  It did not take the youngster long to realize that he liked wrenching on racecars more than he did driving them.  That created a career move that landed him a spot in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa in 2011.  There he joined his father, Bruce Sr., who was inducted as a car owner 14-years earlier. 

Down through the years Bromme Jr. tuned cars have won over 250 main events and more than 20 championships between the original CRA, SCRA and USAC/CRA.  He has won championships with Mike Spencer, Richard “The Gasman” Griffin, Lealand McSpadden, Damion Gardner and Thompson.  While Thompson and McSpadden have already joined Bromme in the Hall of fame, Griffin, Spencer and Gardner will one day have their plaques there as well.  

While.those drivers have won championships with the talented Templeton, Californian turning the wrenches, several other top starts, including fellow Hall of Famers Bubby Jones and Jimmy Oskie, have also driven cars tuned by Bromme.  Another driver to benefit from Bromme’s knowledge was past Indy Racing League star Billy Boat. At the last ever sprint car race at legendary Ascot Park in Gardena in 1990, Boat, in a car tuned by Bromme, set the all-time track record for a traditional sprint car with a lap of 17.958.  

Since 1995 Bromme has been the crew chief for Ron Chaffin’s red #50 car.  In their first 19 seasons together, they won the season long championship 14 times.  They also won three Non Wing World Championships and the 2012 Oval Nationals with current driver Spencer. 

“When it comes to tuning a racecar, Bruce is a virtual genius,” Kazarian stated.  “He can read the racetrack and know exactly what to do to make his car go faster.  Time and time again we have seen races where another car is going to win the main event and a red flag comes out.  Bruce gets to tune on the car and the changes he makes leads them to a victory.  His reputation to do that literally strikes fear into some of the competition.  He is into their heads.” 

Over the years Bromme has worked with great drivers like those mentioned above and more.  All have benefited immensely from his knowledge and as Spencer recently explained, it is not just on car setup.

 “Bruce has so much experience and knowledge and not just with the car,” Spencer explained.  “Yes, he is a master at setting up the car and reading the track.  But he also knows how to make the driver comfortable.  That is very important.  I know my career has really benefited just from being around Bruce.  He is great,”

I hope that this can stay in place as Bruce Bromme  being the Grand Marshal. ,,,,,It would be nice to bring in Ron Chaffin as a spokes person to to talk about all the wins and Championships thay shared together for all the years thay both were together. ,,,, Iam shore that there are a lot of others that could stand next to Ron and have some good stories to tell. ,,, But what a great way to send off Bruce Bromme as being the man of the night.  ""GRAND MARSHAL "" A  Legend in Sprint car racing.  That played right hear,, in our house. ,,, Perris Auto Speedway. ,,,GOD BLESS.  ,,,,, JOHN JENSEN.

The Bromme family's contributions to racing go back to before Bruce Jr was born. JACK McGRATH's first ride at Indy (in '48) was in a Bromme Offy owned by Bayard Sheffler. Spider Webb and Bill Sheffler also ran Brommes that year. Manny Ayulo took Jacks' seat in '49 along with the afforementioned. And no less a light than RODGER WARD took his first ride in The Big Show in a Bromme in '51in Lou Bromme's car. Andy & Vince Granatelli put Webb in the field in '52. Bob Scott drove Lou's car in '53. Bruce Sr. had Webb in the pilot's seat in '54. All of these cars were dual-purpose dirt-&-asphalt "high boys" running all over the country in those days.
