From our man from South Dakota touring Indiana, newly released from a snow bank.

I was not in favor of the new indy qualify procedures. Im sure it was done as there were only 33 cars that would take time, so therefore there would be no bump day.   I was so suprised that when it come time for the final hour that the pit lane was like bump day with all the guys trying to get into the final nine.   It brought me back the next day to see them set the pole with the fast nine running for it, and rest of field running for their position.   I think they come up with a winning plan.  seeing, hearing and smelling the cars at that place are so special.  There is no other place like it.

Sat nite...Went to IRP for silver crown asphalt 100 lap race.  Calif Swanson boys were the show.  Tanner was on a rail.  Cody broke a rear end in hot laps.   It took them till feature time to get a new one in it.  He started at the rear with no hot laps to check the rear end.  He run all the way through the pack to finish second.  It was cold cold with an east wind in our face.  They were running motorcycles on the drag strip behind us in evening (where they have the NHRA NATIONALS DRAGS)  check hoseheads for a neat pic of them in winners circle.

Sun back to the speedway to see setting the field for the 500.  Nice nice weather.  Felt good to see the drivers do what very few in the world are capable of.   Sun night non wing sprints at Kokomo speedway.  (1/4mile dirt)  32 sprinters from alver the US.  Interesting fact there were no slugs in the field.  They run the first 20 laps under green and the leaders had passed no one.  Nice seeing them back it in like they do at all smaller tracks.  They don't need a "crutch" on top of the cage to go fast and race.  Is pure open wheel racing.   note(was the last track I saw Jason Leffler run a couple of yrs ago after his Nascar run was over).  Felt lucky to see him race alot in all open wheel races including Indy 500.   Dave Darlard won with Jon Standbrogh second.

Tuff call what to do wed night.  do i go to Terra Haute for the usac sprints on half mile dirt or stay here and watch the Xtreme sprints at anderson (where im staying)   TH about 90 miles away, also xtreme sprints and little 500 practice all day at anderson with xtreme race at night.   maybe if help someone on car i will stay here.

I am so jealous! Do not miss the museum. It is awesome. If you have the time, make the drive down to Bloomington for a sprint show. Haven't been there in 15 years but it was the best run track I have ever been to. What you are doing is on my bucket list. Maybe next year. I am soooo jealous!!!
