MSCS SPRINTS TO RACE THROUGHOUT MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND AT BLOOMINGTON, LINCOLN PARK, AND TRI-STATE SPEEDWAYS
Haubstadt, IN - May 17, 2014 - The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series will be in action three times to close out the month of May. All three races will be held over the Memorial Day Weekend. The series will make a swing across South Central Indiana and on down into Southwestern Indiana. The back to back to back races begin with a Friday night stop at Bloomington Speedway. Saturday MSCS will compete at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville before completing the holiday schedule with a trip south to Haubstadt for a Sunday night program. A search through Midwest Sprint Car Series records revealed that this will be the first time that the series has attempted to compete three nights in a row. The series has had back to back appearances on the season schedule twenty-nine times over thirteen years. The extra night of action will further challenge MSCS race teams in preparing and maintaining the car to meet changing conditions and trying circumstances. The travel is not extensive but these three shows will be very competitive. The programs will combine a special purpose with attractive purses and conclude with a MSCS - KISS challenge. On Friday night May 23rd Bloomington Speedway will present the Josh Burton Memorial Race. The feature winner will collect the $2,000 that is the usual rate for a MSCS show. The Speedway has announced that additional bonus money is in the offering from the Josh Burton Foundation that would provide an extra $400 to the feature winner. Saturday night’s race at Lincoln Park Speedway will pay $2,500 to win. And Sunday night’s event at Tri-State Speedway will pay $2,500 to win using the KISS purse structure. The combined purses offer $7,400 to the winner or winners! In Josh Burton’s honor another additional $1,000 will serve as a reward for the driver who leads lap number 4 of the feature Friday night. Josh drove the number 04 when competing at Bloomington Speedway and with MSCS. Terry and Leslie Prince of Bloomington are responsible for this contribution. The feature for the Josh Burton Memorial Race on the 23rd will begin with a virtual dash for cash. Twenty cars will start the feature. The trophy being presented to the winner is unique in that it is a Henry Golden Boy Rifle. The driver finishing fourth in the B Main will receive a spec medium right rear Hoosier Tire complete with orange letters. Three nights of racing provides a tremendous opportunity for drivers to gain or solidify positions in the MSCS points standings. The top eleven drivers in the current MSCS standings are just 40 points apart. Winning a feature awards 40 points! Daron Clayton and Hunter Schuerenberg have won the two MSCS features held so far this season. Defending MSCS Champion Jon Stanbrough and Robert Ballou are presently at the top of the driver standings. These two drivers have been there before. They finished one-two in the final standings in the 2012 season. 2011 MSCS Champion Brady Short has already visited the winner’s circle at both Bloomington and Putnamville this season. This has the potential to be the most exciting sprint car racing weekend of the year. James Lyerla of Hillsboro, IL, is at the top of the MSCS Rookie of the Year standings. So far seven of the drivers that have declared for Rookie Status have made that all important initial appearance.
