CHARLES DAVIS JR. WINS NONSTOP “MOTHER’S DAY RACE” AT QUEEN CREEK

QUEEN CREEK, AZ – MAY 11, 2014... In a nonstop, green to checkered feature, Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis claimed Saturday’s “Mother’s Day Race” at Queen Creek’s Arizona Speedway. Taking the lead from Andy Reinbold on lap 26, Davis sailed to his second $1,500 USAC SouthWest Sprint Car triumph of the season. Reinbold, Josh Pelkey, high point driver R.J. Johnson, and Matt Rossi trailed “Chargin” Charles to the checkered flags.

Earning the win from the fifth starting spot, Charles Davis Jr. has taken over the point lead heading to Canyon Speedway Park’s “Salute to Indy.” The pilot of the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / MP Environmental RSS also ranked second in passing points after winning the night’s third 8-lap heat race. To date, the five-time state champion has six heat race victories, nine top-10 finishes, and 16 feature laps led on the season.

After leading twenty-five laps from the pole position, Andy Reinbold of Gilbert had to settle for second at Queen Creek’s “Mother’s Day Race.” Racing Todd Underwood’s #19 AME Electrical / Ross Equipment Rentals RSS, Reinbold took second in his heat race and placed sixth in passing points. The veteran driver has climbed to sixth in the point chase with one semi-main win and three top-10 finishes to his credit.

Peoria’s Josh Pelkey raced to third in the Arizona Speedway feature after starting eighth. Driving Robbie and Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts Maxim, Pelkey scored third in his heat race and was eighth in passing points. The former ASCA Champion has slipped to second in points with one feature win, one heat race victory, two hard charger awards, eleven top-10 finishes, and 45 feature laps led in 2014.

R.J. Johnson of Phoenix took fourth in the main event from the sixth starting spot. Piloting Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson raced to victory in the program’s second heat race and was the high point driver entering the main event. The defending champion sits fourth in the standings with one feature win, two heat race victories, nine top-10 finishes, and 44 feature laps led on the year.

Phoenix’s Matt Rossi earned the night’s “Hard Charger / Best Passing Job” honors with a fifth place run after starting eleventh. Racing the family owned #02 Apache Scapes / Advanced Engine Components Spike, Rossi was eleventh in passing points after placing fourth in his heat race. Matt left Arizona Speedway ranked fifth in series points with one heat race victory and four top-10 finishes.

Brian Hosford of Gilbert raced to his first 8-lap heat race triumph of the season. Driving Bernie Weber’s #32B Coffin & Trout Fine Jewelers / Invision Auto Body Spike, Hosford was third in passing points before finishing seventh in the 30-lap main event. The veteran driver has risen to twelfth in the point chase with two top-10 finishes in the campaign.
