Sumter’s for the Birds….

Hemby Bridge, NC – No, really it is… The winged sprint car warriors of the Carolina RaceSaver Sprint Car Series won’t be the only wings at Sumter Speedway on Saturday, May 17th.

The whole night at Sumter Speedway in Sumter, South Carolina will be dedicated to Feathered Friends Forever, one of the largest companion bird rescues in the world located in Harlem, GA. Among the many programs provided by Feathered Friends Forever is the “Birdy Camp” that provides temporary housing for birds of our dedicated service men and women while they are deployed overseas.

The aluminum wings of full sized sprint cars will take to hot laps around the high banked 3/8 mile dirt track at 7PM with qualifying races leading into one of the largest features of the year for the fastest growing racing series in the Southeast. With several of the nation’s top RaceSaver drivers in attendance at a brand new track, the action will be unpredictable leaving the fans on the edge of their seat with slide jobs galore!

Last time sprint cars visited Sumter Speedway in the summer of 2006, fans were literally standing and applauding drivers after each hot lap session. There’s no reason those emotions won’t happen this time around.

For more information on this weekend’s events at Sumter Speedway, you can contact the track at (803) 481-2650 or visit their website at SumterSpeedway.com. Fans interested in the Carolina RaceSaver Sprint Car Series can visit their website at CarolinaRaceSaver.com.

And MOST importantly, for more information on Feather Friends Forever head over to their website at FeatherFriendsForever.org to make a donation or learn how you can personally help these great companion birds.

We encourage everyone to bring an extra five dollars or that mason jar of change for donations. Every little bit goes a long way!

We’ll see you at Sumter Speedway Saturday, and as always….bring a friend!

This should be a great race, count me in and I'll bring something for our feathered friends.

2006 was a USCS 360 race with Danny Martin, Kenny Adams, Bryn Gohn, Terry Gray, and a few URC teams like Justin Collette (spelling?).

After watching 4 cylinders, forward drive cars, and street stocks as their headliners on a weekly basis with the late models not being that much faster, it blew their minds and couldn't comprehend a race car ever going that fast around that place.

I was in the stands that night, and I wasn't kidding when I said everyone stood up and cheered during the hot laps.  About an hour later, you could tell that the fans got on the phones and started calling friends to haul ass to the track to watch the heats and feature.  There was a surge of fans that randomly showed up at the track.
