Buckeye Machine BOSS Tour Heads Home to Wayne County

On the heels of a blockbuster season opener at Fremont Speedway, the Buckeye Machine BOSS sprint tour now sets its sights on the series' most storied venue, the Wayne County Speedway. The Orrville, Ohio 3/8 mile oval was once known as "Buckeye Speedway" but it has since reverted back to its original name. In 2011, then rookie promoter Jason Flory took a shot on a rookie series of wingless 410 sprints and that October night set the tone for what has been a tremendous partnership. The traveling series has now recorded more events here, than at any other venue.

This Saturday, May 10th will see the sixth event in Buckeye Machine BOSS history contested at Wayne County. No other venue has run more than four so far. In the previous 5 events, three different winners have found victory lane. The inaugural series champion, Dustin Smith of Russiaville, Indiana picked up wins in 2011 and 2012. Local young gun and crowd favorite Sheldon Haudenschild of nearby Wooster swept both BOSS appearances at Wayne County a year ago. And Mike Burkin charged from 15th starting spot to win the spring 2012 event.

This weekend, the series welcomes aboard new heat race sponsors K-D Pizza with locations in Ashland, Mansfield, and Wooster and Cowen Truck Lines of Perrysville, Ohio. They will join Burdette Builders of Sunman, Indiana and Lias Tire / American Racer of Indiana, Pennsylvania to present heat race payouts to the competitors.

As always, the BOSS bonus award system will be in effect with The Bridge Restaurant of Sidney, Ohio covering the $50 "hard charger" award. Hochstetler Truck and Auto Repair of Ashland, Ohio will award the highest finishing steel block engine with a $50 bonus. Lynn Cook of Dayton, Ohio will provide a $50 bonus to the night's "Hard Luck" driver of the night. A new award added for 2014 is the new Rusty and Cappie McClure "Lucky Pill Draw" Award. Each night, a number is pre-designated and the person drawing that number (or the closest to it) is rewarded with a free pit pass along with hot dogs and drinks for the crew.

As always, the series runs under an open tire rule. Last week, American Racer tires adorned the feature winning car along with the cars finishing in 4th and 9th respectively. Hoosier tires ran 2nd, 3rd, and 5th a week ago. This shows the competitiveness of the series and BOSS is pleased to have both Hoosier and American Racer providing tire bonuses to the highest finisher on all 4 of each brand.

For teams traveling to Wayne County, mufflers are required. Pit gates open at 4 pm. Pit Passes will be $30. Teams will be paid by BOSS series check at the conclusion of the night. Standard BOSS purse will be in effect and it is as follows: $1500, $800, $700, $600, $500, $450, $400, $375, $350, $325, $300, $290, $280, $270, $260, $250, $250, $250, $250, $250. We will start a 20 car A-Main event. For more information, please contact the series director Aaron Fry at 740-703-3768 or e-mail [email protected]
