USAC SOUTHWEST SPRINTS DEBUT AT PRESCOTT VALLEY SATURDAY
By Lance Jennings

PEORIA, AZ – APRIL 29, 2014... This Saturday, May 3rd, the popular USAC SouthWest Sprint Cars will make their series debut at Prescott Valley Speedway. Hosted by General Manager Bugs Norbury, the action packed “premier show” will also feature the Prescott Valley Dwarf Cars, Copper State Mod Lites, and SCRA Factory Stocks. The Pit Gate will open at 4:00pm, the Front Gates will open at 5:00pm, and Racing is scheduled for 7:00pm.

While new to the series, the Yavapai County Fairgrounds was the “home track” for the Challenge Cup Sprints and has held special sprint car events. This season, the 3/8-mile oval will showcase five USAC SouthWest Sprint Car dates and history will be made this Saturday night. A talented roster of drivers will be on hand with their sights on adding Prescott Valley Speedway to their win list.

After finishing second in last Saturday’s “Canyon Clash,” R.J. Johnson of Phoenix has taken over the point lead. Racing Bill Michaels’ #77M Kodiak Products / Beal’s Auto Body Sherman, Johnson has one feature win, one heat race victory, one hard charger award, eight top-10 finishes, and 44 feature laps led to his credit. The defending series champion will be looking to earn his series leading 13th main event win at Prescott Valley.

Entering the fourth point race of the campaign, Peoria’s Josh Pelkey is second in the point standings. Driving Robbie & Gaye Allen’s #12 ABC Body Shop / Napa Auto Parts Maxim, Pelkey earned his second hard charger award at Canyon with a seventh place run from twenty-second. The former ASCA Champion has one feature win, one heat race victory, nine top-10 finishes, and 45 feature laps led on the year. Josh will be looking to score his third career USAC SouthWest victory on Saturday.

Shon Deskins of Phoenix ranks third in the chase for the championship. Piloting his #20 MP Environmental / Spike Chassis entry, Deskins placed twelfth in the “4th Annual Canyon Clash.” To date, the veteran driver has two heat race victories and six top-10 finishes in 2014. On Saturday, Shon will have his sights on claiming his first USAC feature win at Prescott Valley Speedway.

After winning last Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park, Buckeye’s “Chargin” Charles Davis Jr. has climbed to fourth in series points. Racing the Massey Motorsports’ #50 RSS Industries / MP Environmental RSS, Davis has four heat race victories, seven top-10 finishes, and 11 feature laps led on the season. “Chargin” Charles will be looking to continue his championship bid with a Saturday night victory.

Josh Shipley of Peoria has risen to fifth in the point chase. Driving Bob Bishop’s #2 Beaver Strips / RSS Industries machine, Shipley charged from sixteenth to sixth in the “Canyon Clash.” With two top-10 finishes on the year, last season’s Challenge Cup Champion will have his sights on his first USAC SouthWest main event win.

Among the other drivers expected to be in action are Nick Aiuto, “The Radio Flyer” Bruce St. James, Matt Rossi, “The Magic Man” Mike Martin, Andy Reinbold, “The Kid” Tye Mihocko, Michael Curtis, Mike Bonneau, Brian Hosford, Mike Colegrove, Tom Ogle, Stevie Sussex, Tom Lee, Chris Bonneau, and more.

Prescott Valley Speedway is located on the Yavapai County Fairgrounds at 10501 Highway 89A in Prescott Valley, Arizona. Adult tickets (11 and up) are $18 and Kids tickets (10 and under) are FREE. For more event information, visit the track’s website at www.pvraceway.com or call 928.925.9858.

Watch yourself in the parking lot Randy, looks like there could be a old fashioned rumble taking place.
