MSCS SEASON BEGINS ON APRIL FIFTH DESTINATION - THE INDIANA OPEN WHEEL.COM RACIN’ FEST
Haubstadt, IN - March 28, 2014. The 2014 Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint Car Series racing season is about to get underway. The season will begin on April 5th with the first of three visits the series will make to Lincoln Park Speedway. Bill Gardner’s Indiana Open Wheel.Com Racin’ Fest has been presented at the opening night for the Putnamville, IN, facility since Joe Spiker took over the reigns as the promoter.
This year the MSCS Sprint Cars will be the featured attraction and the purse has been increased to $4,000 to win. The change provides MSCS drivers with an opportunity to begin and end the season with increased purses of like amounts. The purse for the Harvest Cup at Tri-State Speedway in October also pays $4,000 to win. It is hoped that the two events will serve as perfect bookends for the season championship story!
The complete story will be developed over a series of 18 big events in 2014. Drivers who are ready to race on April 5th stand to get a jump in the points chase! Jon Stanbrough is a two time and defending champion for MSCS. Brady Short made the chase the closest and most interesting in MSCS history last year in finishing just a point behind Stanbrough. Rookie Bradley Sterrett was third in the final standings. Sterrett is among those drivers already licensed and ready to start the new campaign.
This year’s Rookie crop of drivers is already taking form. Four drivers have already indicated an interest in pursuing the 2014 Rookie of the Year honors. Hinchman Indy Racing Uniforms will continue in its role as one of the primary sponsors in supporting MSCS’s Driver Development Program. For thirteen years MSCS has provided an avenue along which drivers can earn while learning to succeed.
The feature event at the IOW Racin’Fest will be for a distance of 30 laps. The defending Racin’ Fest victor is Jeff Bland Jr. of Springville, IN. Bland held off Brady Short and Chase Briscoe in winning last year’s main event. The feature served as an action packed kick-off to the season. Former winners have included some of the best sprint car drivers to sit behind a wheel. Jon Stanbrough, Dave Darland, and Levi Jones have visited victory lane at the Fest since 2010.
The pit gate at Lincoln Park Speedway is set to open at three o’clock in the afternoon. The main gate opens at 4:30 P.M. Hot laps are at 6 o’clock and racing begins at 7. Drivers are reminded to be there early. The first race requires added paperwork and the pill draw normally ends at least a half hour before hot laps. If weather should be a factor MSCS has set aside April 12th on the schedule as a rain date.
MSCS has two other races scheduled in April. The last weekend of the month the series will combine forces with USAC on Saturday to provide the season opener at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN. Then on Sunday MSCS & KISS will offer a combo program of sprint car racing at the Terre Haute Action Track. That is the weekend Of April 26th and 27th. Three MSCS races are set to begin the season and each is unique!
