INTERNATIONAL REEL WHEEL FILM FESTIVAL TAKES PLACE SATURDAY, APRIL 5, AT NATIONAL SPRINT CAR MUSEUM

KNOXVILLE, IOWA (March 26, 2014)  -  The “Sprint Car Capital of the World” comes to life on Saturday, April 5, as the National Sprint Car Museum hosts the sixteenth annual International Reel Wheel Film Festival, which celebrates the automobile and motorsports in cinema.  Amongst the new documentaries being screened are “Squirt” by Greg Peterson, Randy Anderson & Randy Sweeney; “Where They Raced: Speed Demons in the City of Angels” by Harold Osmer & Harry Pallenberg; and “Pretty in Pink, Covered in Dirt” by Makaila Haase & Juanita Bustamante.

According to museum curator Tom Schmeh, “For whatever reason, we are down this year on the quantity of entries for our annual film festival.  Having said that, we feel that we still offer a great deal of quality as each of the three new auto-racing-oriented documentaries are excellent.  We will have a full day of films in our second-floor theater, with the final film of the day being an encore presentation of the ‘Stateline Speedway’ documentary released in 2010 by southwestern New York’s Randy Anderson.”

The sixteenth annual International Reel Wheel Film Festival (IRWFF) event schedule for Saturday, April 5, is as follows:

12 Noon - “Squirt”
By Greg Peterson, Randy Anderson & Randy Sweeney; documentary about the racing career of Stanley “Squirt” Johns of Brockway, Pennsylvania (52 minutes).

1 p.m. - “Where They Raced:  Speed Demons in the City of Angels”
By Harold Osmer & Harry Pallenberg; documentary about the history of auto racing in southern California (102 minutes).

2:45 p.m. - “Pretty in Pink, Covered in Dirt”
By Makaila Haase & Juanita Bustamante; documentary about soon-to-be Knoxville sprint car driver McKenna Haase of Iowa (14 minutes).

3 p.m. - “Stateline Speedway:  The First Ten Years, 1956-65” (encore presentation)
By Randy Anderson; documentary about the first ten years of Stateline Speedway in Busti, New York (90 minutes).

The cost for the International Reel Wheel Film Festival is just the price of a museum admission (i.e. – four dollars per adult).  Those individuals interested in the sixteenth annual International Reel Wheel Film Festival are encouraged to visit the museum’s web site at www.sprintcarhof.com.
