I saw a pic of kville today and they tore out the infield guard rails, and replaced them with portabcle concrete baricades. Anyone know why?

I looked at this yesterday...
The area in question is the wall extending from the the pit entrance coming off of turn 4 (the end that people run into after their qualifying lap) to the front stretch push off area. There guardrail and support posts have been removed. There are some concrete K-rails sitting on the concrete area of the infield. The K-rails look to be the K-rails that previously sat directly behind the guardrail that has been removed. These K-rails were present for additional support.
I would imagine the guardrail is being replaced with something similar to what was there before. I can't imagine they would replace that guardail with K-rails. K-rails aren't tall enough and flop over easily if not anchored into the ground.
One of the safety aspects of the Knoxville Raceway that isn't often discussed is the lack of concrete walls. Concrete walls kill racecar drivers. The walls at Knoxville are steel guardrails with timber supports. This wall system provides enough "give" to cushion the blow of a racecar in a similar manner to a NASCAR style "soft-wall." I can't imagine Knoxville would be installing a concrete wall. Perhaps someone with some first-hand knowledge could enlighten us to the plans for the inside wall on the front stretch....
