Seems Hoseheads set up these boards for fans. Lately local boards are mostly used by PR flacks. If I have a comment I go to this board or I go on Facebook.

The key world here is "local", this is the national form. Check out some of the others and you'll see his point.

I've never been to a "local" one . And thanks to all the positive reviews I may not bother. Does Knoxville have a local forum? Or should I jump into the deep end and try out the Grove?

You can try the Grove--However, they would not let me on due to my high school diploma.

I'm referring to the local boards that are affiliated with hoseheads that can be found if you click on HOME at the top of this page. My local board would be the SCRAFAN one..... Here, I'll put them below.

I moderate the Minnesota board and it has been associated with my website for more years than I can remember off the top of my head. We're not really Sprint Car country up here and there is another board run by a supporter of Late Model and Modified racing that gets a ton more traffic. I get absolutely no add revenue or any benefit for providing the board other than it gives those who want to use it a forum to post on.
Someone recently accused me of "neutering" my board. There hasn't been much traffic in recent years since a couple of blow ups where I had promoters calling and emailing me to give me an earful because someone said such and such about their track or series. I'd be at in the office at my day job and the phone would ring and it would be some promoter all torqued out of shape about something on my board. Most of the web is blocked at work and I don't have a smart phone or tablet so I'd tell them I'll take care of it when I get home. Some didn't want to wait but it wasn't like I had some staff of moderators at my beck and call.
Profanity is another issue, I draw the line at the F bomb. I'm not religious, haven't set foot in a church in years and I was in the Navy so I could probably come up with stuff that would embarrass the people posing the F bombs but I don't allow it on the board as a courtesy to the parents. Nevertheless, if they get too nasty with the language or start slandering promoters and drivers or bad mouthing tracks that allow me media passes I zap the posts. I'm not out to win a popularity contest and don't care what anyone thinks about me or the way I run the website or board. I try to keep my own posts humorous and provacative without stepping over the line of extreme profanity or slander. I always tell people if they join us in the campground after the races that I'll break all of my own message board rules right along with them.
I don't know about the other local boards but that is my approach to this deal. If one of these days Jeff decided to shut down his servers and stop offering these boards to websites I most likely would not replace it. There has been a drop off in message board traffic since social media like Facebook and Twitter came on the scene. I think that's a large part of not seeing as many posts as we used to see six or eight years ago.

Sounds boring to me too. Contraversy is the spice of a fan board. Love those PA. guys, they like to go at it.
