I saw this morning that King Richard accepted Tony Stewrats challenge to race Danica in equally prepared Stewart-Haas cars. What are ur thoghts ? I think its genius of Smoke ! He will definitely benefit from it . I hope they go through with it and I sure hope the King wins ! Yea its not sprint car related but the King has raced enough dirt to say hes been there.

I have sort of been a Tony fan because of what he gives back to his roots but, I think he is being a real jerk in this case. This is just me but I have always felt that older people and especially ones who have lived a good life and accomplished much deserve respect. I have come across some who have said things in their older years that I completely disagree with but let it pass out of respect for them. Putting a 72 year old man against someone in their prime, male or female dosen't prove anything. Richard has a right to his opinion which is shared by many that a man with her record would not get top notch equipment to run. With that said I also don't fault Danica for taking advantage of fools who spend their money on her most would ride it as far as they can. She will be set for life because of them and you can't blame her for that.

I have lost respect for Tony over this. He should have kept his mouth shut and left this alone.
Richard Petty made his mark in NASCAR. When Danicky has 200 wins then she can bad mount Richard. Until then she should be quiet too!
You may not agree with what Richard said (I happen to agree with him) but he has a right to speak his mind.

Sorry this won't let you edit. Can't believe this board. Should be "mouth" not "mount."

I am a big time fan of both Petty and Stewart. I was born toward the end of the King's career but got into racing because of him and cheered for Kyle and Adam as well and started cheering for Tony once Kyle's career came to an end. I think this is a great idea because I think Richard really is going to win the race. Honestly we all know that this whole Danica thing is all about $$ and sponsors. I have not been a big fan of Tony's business decisions when it comes to bring her along especially releasing Newman and keeping her with aboslutely know improvement of results from her. All Richard has been saying that she is no different than a David Gillialand, Michael McDowell, or David Stremee who finish in the back on a consistent basis due to inferior equipment. Those guys don't get 1% of the exposure that Danica does and they finish no worst than she is and it is only because she is a woman and also a woman who has done those Godaddy commercials so shes a "sex" symbol as well if you want to call her that.
Women can race but they should get the same exposure for there results as all the other drivers do.

I agree Tony crossed the line with the "flag up his ass" comment. I dont mind Tony offering up a race between the two but
equal cars or not, Richard is in his 70's! Richard is entitled to his own opinion but has to remember he is now a car owner
first and a former driver second. Tony stuck up for her as any car owner would. This is no different than if Rick Hendrick
were to say Paul menard would only win if everyone stayed home. Had that happened, you can bet Richard Childress would
stick up for Paul. Danica did the right thing by not responding to his comments so as I see it, she took the high road and
did nothing wrong.

No matter what, Tony and Richard are both in the wrong IMO.
Richard alienated many, many fans of NASCAR (particulary FEMALE FANS) with his comments. He'd have been better served to state that "well, you never know, this is a tough business. We have championship winning drivers from other divisions that haven't yet won a NASCAR race so that tells you how high the competition level is."
Tony is alienating those life-long hard-core NASCAR fans by disrespecting the King (that'd be like some local driver at Track XX stating that Steve Kinser doesn't know anything about today's racing becuase he had Karl Kinser and better equipment than everyone else during the 1980's when he was winning all the time).
I highly doubt Richard would accept the challenge (it's been what, 20 years since his last race??) except as a publicity stunt and even then the odds are that he would lose (he's just not in good enough shape to last more than a few laps in the car under the G-forces).

Richard alienated many many fans??? LMAO I'm sure there are some but their the minority in of the millions of fans and they wont' be so upset w/ his comments that they hate him. Because he's right... I'm also guessing Richard doesn't care about the 12 people he geniunely pissed off.

Mark my words - Tony Stewart will (hopefully during my lifetime) in reference to the entire Danica Patrick experience utter the words "It seemed like a good idea at the time"

Per NASCAR's own #'s, Females are over 30% of the fanbase and growing every year. Yes, I'd say he alienated the NASCAR fanbase (maybe not the old gray-hairs in the 70's, but the younger generation).
Do I think Richard cares? I doubt it, as he's in his 70s'. To me that's no different than when my grandparents will say something about an ethnic group that makes me cringe (they are in their early 90's, when they were my age our country was a VERY different place).
Now, if one of today's drivers had said what Richard did, there would be a public outrage and NASCAR would have fined, suspended or reprimanded them (possibly all 3 of those things) and made them make a huge public apology about it. Because it's Richard Petty, he gets a "pass" from NASCAR (and the fans).

NASCAR needs to take care of the female fan base..... no real man would follow such nonsense.
Luna's Ford engine style that won 2 WoO titles and 3
Kings Royals before a weight rule against the best EVER
in their prime and now DOMINATES super dirt late model
racing is no longer allowed/wanted in a WoO sprint
car.... Was Luna a miracle worker?

So whats the big deal...hell she sucks and anybody with a brain knows it. NAPCARS at it again this year with #3 on the pole. A good follow up to last year when Danica was on the pole.

Lost all respect for Tony when he hired her, so wasn't much to lose. But somehow he lost more... Cool he races Sprint cars yet, but all that does is bring out flocks of window licking napcar fans. So isn't doing any justice there either for me.

He's laughing when he says it. He knows it's a joke just like Tony was joking when he suggested it. Maybe I'm the only one not taking this seriously. But look how much fun the media is having with it.

I hope he's serious. All he has to do is avoid the wreck when she pushes too hard trying not to be beat by a 70 year old man. I can only imagine how tired the guys stuck working on her cars are of fixing her shit constantly.
