BIGGER RACES, BIGGER PURSES FOR USAC/CRA SPRINT CARS IN 2014
By Lance Jennings

SANTA MARIA, CA – FEBRUARY 19, 2014... As the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Cars enter their eleventh season, the traditional 410s will compete for more prize money than in recent seasons. As this writing goes to press, half of the 24 races will pay an increased purse as promoters are still working on special events like Calistoga’s “Louie Vermeil Classic” and Canyon’s “Hall of Fame Classic.”

While the Friday night preliminary of season opening “7th Annual Copper on Dirt” at Canyon Speedway will pay $2,500-to-win, the winner of the March 1st finale will earn $3,000. Track Promoter Kevin Montgomery has continued to make improvements to the facility and has bigger things planned for the season ending “Hall of Fame Classic.”

Perris Auto Speedway’s Don Kazarian has recently announced that the “19th Budweiser Oval Nationals presented by All Coast Construction” will pay a minimum of $20,000-to-win with a total purse approaching $100,000. In addition, the “Salute to Indy” and “Firecracker” main events have returned to 40-laps and will pay $3,000-to-win and $400-to-start. The purse for the “Salute to Indy” and “Firecracker” shows are listed at the end of this release.

USAC Western Operations Director Chris Kearns has negotiated that the majority of “out of town” shows will pay $2,750-to-win and $350-to-start. Starting with USAC/CRA’s return to Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway on May 10th, this includes the Watsonville-Petaluma doubleheader in June, the July 5th event at Santa Maria, the Chico, Watsonville, and Santa Maria “California Sprint Week” races, and Hanford’s “Cotton Classic.”

NOTICE TO USAC/CRA COMPETITORS:
The Hoosier HTW/HT2 Right Rear Tires can be run at the first four dates (2/28 Canyon, 3/1 Canyon, 3/15 Perris, and 4/12 Perris). At Perris Auto Speedway’s May 3rd show, the Hoosier 105/16 Medium will be the ONLY legal right rear tire and all four corners must be Hoosier tires. Fuel-injected iron block 360 sprints must use the Hoosier 105/16 Medium and carbureted spec sprints can still use their local track legal Hoosier tires with USAC/CRA.

Officials with the Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Series are looking for marketing partners and associate sponsors to join their Racer Contingency Program. If you or your company would like to become part of the series, email PR Director Lance Jennings at [email protected].

Kudos to All Coast Construction for stepping up and adding to the purse for the 2014 Oval Nationals!

This announcement is great news for the teams and drivers, and the added incentive should indirectly benefit the fans as well.  Your support is much appreciated.

Also, I think the move to a universal tire rule is a good thing as well.  I'm sure the teams appreciate the allowance of a transition period before the new rubber is mandatory.  Good stuff!

Agreed! I don't have any behind the scenes information, but from the outside looking in it seems things are on the upswing.  Yeah, there are some issues out there, but all in all I've seen a lot of positive news.

I still keep tabs on some of the racing in Texas (where I moved from) through some of my friends.  There's been a lot of good things happening there already this year.  There was actually a new dirt track built (between a couple of closures, unfortunately), but again, it seems there may be a small upswing starting.

Hopefully, things are are starting to rebound across the country - not just in certain regions.

Here's hoping for a safe and successful 2014!
