Wing and Non-wing Thrill Seekers Collide in Ultimate Challenge!
(Bill W) August 1, 2007 – Sprint car drivers of the wing and non-wing variety will be colliding Tuesday, August 7, at the Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa, Iowa for the Searsboro Telephone Ultimate Challenge! Tim "TK" Kaeding, known for his high-flying, rim riding driving style with a wing, has entered the non-wing classic in a bid for $30,000! The sensational Californian will be joined on the high-side by the National Sprint Car Poll's Non-wing Wild Card in 2006, "The Modern Day Cowboy" Daron Clayton. Clayton has been wowing non-wing fans for the last three seasons with his cushion busting driving style! Daron won twice during July Sprintweek action in two different cars!
Former UC Champion Dickie Gaines has thrown his hat in the ring for Tuesday's race as well! Who will forget the battle with Zach Chappell and "The Rocket" Jesse Hockett, in which Gaines grabbed a narrow victory at the finish line in 2004? Hockett will return as well, having almost a full USAC non-wing season under his belt in 2007.
The pre-entries are at an all-time high for the "One Night Stand for 30 Grand"! Nextel Cup star JJ Yeley will be pointing his left front skyward as he did in winning USAC's Triple Crown in 2003. Joining Yeley will be USAC Sprint Car points leader and 2005 UC winner, Levi Jones, and his exciting Tony Stewart Racing teammate, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. All Stenhouse has done is win in all three of USAC's divisions (Sprint, Midget, Silver Crown) this season. That came after winning big races in both winged 360 and 410 action. Did we mention the Olive Branch, Mississippi native is only 19 years old?
Defending race winner, Jerry Coons Jr. is on board in the legendary Hoffman Racing #69 sprinter. Coons is fresh off of sweeping the Belleville Midget Nationals and will be coming in with sprint car confidence as well. He copped the Indiana Sprintweek race at the Kamp Motor Speedway near Boswell in July. Winged experience will come from Chad Kemenah, Rob Chaney, Brooke Tatnell, Don Droud Jr. and others.
This year's UC could also be known as a competition for the best nickname. Joining "TK", "The Modern Day Cowboy", "Hammerhead" (Stenhouse) and "The Rocket" are "Stomp 'N Steer" Scotty Weir, "Double D" Dave Darland, "The Kruser" Cory Kruseman, "The Problem Child" RJ Johnson and Chris "Critter" Malone.
As well as the tremendous payoff on the line, a number of contingency sponsors have stepped up! The popular Sprint Bandit format will be used with passing points used in the heats. Each heat winner will receive a wheel from Weld. After the heats, qualifiers will be run, inverted by passing points through the heats. Each Qualifier winner will receive a new Winters rear-end!!!
The Keith Hutton Hard-charger award winner will receive a KSE Power Steering Pump, $100 and a plaque from Duane Davis of Laser Engraving of Marshalltown. Other prizes being handed out during the UC will include Astro Titanium Shock Kits and a BMRS Complete set of fuel lines!
