I've followed the WoO since its inception.  The post on page 2 about an Andretti youngster running sprints in Indiana brought this to mind.  I thought these young teenagers would give the WoO some much needed exposure back then, maybe more newspaper sports articles.  One was Al Unser Junior, the other I think was Bobby Unser's son or maybe Johnny Unser's son, not sure, but they both ran sprint cars with the WoO tour for part of a couple years.  I'm sure their dads wanted them to experience all types of racing before getting into "big time" racing and of course they had the money to spend on their kids.  Don't remember them doing much, maybe wrong there, never saw them, just read it in the paper.  Today though, I consider the WoO "big time" racing IMHO.

Lawlessness and liberalism equals Hell. NY City,
Detroit, Seattle, Chicago, Minnepolis, etc. We saw it.
Burning hundreds of buildings, a thousand assaults and
dozens of murders. Getting worser and worser.

Believe it was Robby Unser turning laps at Baylands in Fremont obviously back in the day in the family owned #92.  Don't remember him doing much. - Ron

Robby raced quite a bit in 1985-1986 I think. I remember seeing him race Jackson Minn in 85for sure. It was #92 Casy Luna Ford car.

#92 aka The Penalty Box in those days.  A photo of Robby in the car is on the dust jacket of Outlaw Sprint Cars published in 1987, photography by Dave Arnold.

I think I read somewhere that Robby and Luna's daughter were romanticly involved.

I remember that Robby busted up his leg the first time he was in a big car and after that he concentrated on the Peak where he kept the family name where it had been for generations, on top and in the winners circle.

Junior, well yes he ran at Manzy and Ascot as a "kid" and people still bad mouth him over this way about it. LOL

The first picture is likley Rapic City.  The race car was from New Mexico,  I think owned by Dill.  The guy looking at him is probably Walter Judd.  The second picture is Rapid City because of the light tower in the background. They would drive up to  Rapid on Friday  night and run Denver Sat night.

If this was 1980 Al and Dill had a blowup in Phoenix.  I was putting a new Stanton together in Phoenix that week.  It had an Ernie Dicroce motor in it.  Stanton knew I was doing this and asked who was driving.  I told him no idea. He asked me if Unser would be ok.  I said yes.  When we were building the car in Glendale with a guy named Al Shaw past president of the Arizona Racing Association.  Al Shaw had been to Pikes Peak with Als uncle Bobbie. It was interesting seeing all the History

The racing at Ascot was not a sucess.  Oil beather blew off and smoked it up while we were leading heat race.  Stanton has us run a smaller right rear than normal because of the way the track weas rutted. The narrower tire was able to get to the bottom of the ruts.

The Car was 2d and I would love a picture of it.

Thanks  Mac White

Didn't one of the Unser clan drive for Casey Luna on the WOO in the late 70s or early 80s?

Not sure what the year was, but Al Unser, Jr. did compete at Hartford Speedway in Hartford, SD. It was in a Nance sprint car and I think the number was 71N. For some reason I'm thinking it was in 1979 but I could be wrong...CZ
