Carson McCarl – A Look Back, a Look Ahead!

(Bill W) December 19, 2013 – The racing dates were few and far between for eighteen year old Carson McCarl in 2013.  That looks to be picking up, however, as he will be teaming with Rick Mastell of Forest Lake, Minnesota and old partners Gary and Sally Dean of Deanfield Farms.

The Altoona, Iowa driver got a handful of shows in California run last Spring with Craig “Cowboy” Smith.  “It was a lot of fun,” says Carson of the events in Cali.  “We got to see some different tracks out there.  The tracks are a lot smaller and rougher.  They are heavy and tough to drive.  I learned a lot, and hopefully, I’ll be able to go out there again.”

Carson returned to the Midwest and picked up a few shows with Mastell in June UMSS action. “They approached me when I was helping my Dad at Elko (Minnesota) last summer,” he says of his meeting with Rick Mastell.  “We were able to race with them three times.  We had a couple of top tens and one DNF.  We were running well when we crashed, so overall we ran strong.”

The 2014 schedule will see plenty of racing.  “We’re going to start off at East Bay (Tampa, Florida) with the Winternationals down there,” says Carson.  “We’ll head back to the Midwest from there. We won’t be at Knoxville every week, but the majority we will be.  We’ll hit and miss some ASCS-Midwest and some other series and hope to get 30-35 races in.”

Rick Mastell guides Mastell Brothers Trailers, a family owned business.  Mastell Brothers Trailers has a full service rental and sales center in the north metro of the Twin Cities.  They also have the largest trailer repair center in Minnesota, and is a certified supplier of trailer and tank trailer lines. You can find them online at www.MastellBrothers.com.

Carson would like to thank Mastell Brothers Trailer Service, Inc., Deanfield Farms (Gary and Sally Dean), Berryhill Racing, Vortex, Rossie Feed & Grain, Hoosier, DeBerg Concrete, HRP, Engler Machine, Phil and Vivian, Rider Racing Engines, Van Der Brink Designs, Justice Brothers-Gillund Enterprises, Country Builders Construction, CM Rock, Bayaire Industries, Hinchman Racewear, Schoenfeld Headers, BMRS, Crow Safety, Butlerbuilt, KSE, Aurora Rod Ends, Chris Spaulding – Attorney at Law, K&N Filters, Bell and Jocko's for all their help!

Thought Rick was going to have two cars this year. Ryan Bowers, a Sprint rookie is going to be in the other seat running the   UMSS series unless somethings changed since this fall.
