Wednesdays with Wayne – An All Star in 2014!

(Bill W) December 11, 2013 – The Wayne Johnson Racing #77x team is pleased to announce their intentions of running with the All Star Circuit of Champions in 2014.  The Knoxville, Iowa based team will run XXX Chassis with Fisher Racing Engines.  The team will have the same partners they had in 2013, and add a few more for next year’s campaign.

Wayne is thankful of the support he has from his partners.  Todd Carlile, Vern Ringen, Miles Hill with Townline Variety, Russell Schwartz with Outlaw Wings and Ray Williams with City Vending will be joined by Scott Billish with Stone Mountain Access Systems.  Billish was active with Wayne in the FattFro #14AJ days.  “I’d like to thank the partners we have,” he says.  “They really have become more than friends to me…they are family.  Without them, I don’t know what we would do. They are making this move possible.”

Product sponsors including Bill with The Oil Medics, Byron with Sebastian Sandblasting & Powdercoating, Jeff with 517 Design, Shawna and Kaleb with XXX Chassis, Bob with Rod End Supply, Dave with Astro Titanium, Mark and Doug with Schoenfeld Headers, Desiree at Simpson, Jeannie at Butlerbuilt, Tom at Xtreme Accu-Tach, Carl with Custom Sprint Car, Brad with Momentum, Charlie with Fisher Racing Engines, Team Achieve and Tim with Canyon Apparel are on board again as well.

In addition, Daryl Turford and Conner “Slippy” Nelson will again comprise Wayne’s crew.  “It will be great to have Daryl and ‘Slippy’ with us again,” says Wayne.  “Consistency in a team means a lot, and I think we all learned a lot in 2013.  There wasn’t a whole lot to remember this year to be honest.  From today, there are twenty days left in the year, and I’m ready to turn the page!”

The focus will be on 410 racing only in 2014.  “We’ve sold all our 360 stuff,” says Wayne.  “With that gone, we can really focus on the 410 side of things.  I’m goal-oriented, and we want our focus to be on the All Stars.  Getting rid of the 360 stuff takes away that option.  We seem to do better when we set a task, and carry it out.”

It will be the first time Wayne has run a 410 at many of the tracks the All Stars run at since 2002, when he ran with the World of Outlaws Gumout Series.  “We’re definitely ready to go,” he says. “It’s definitely some uncharted territory for me.  I’m really looking forward to it.  I’m excited to go back to central Pennsylvania and some of the other areas.  It’s just a change of scenery and a different deal.  We’d love to do the Outlaw thing for sure, but we’re just not quite there financially.  We learned last year it takes a lot more than we thought.  The All Stars are the best deal for us right now.”

The All Star Circuit of Champions season gets underway February 6 at the Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, Georgia, before moving on to Ocala and Volusia in Florida.

End of the Year T-shirt Sales

The Wayne Johnson Racing #77x team has a t-shirt sale going on.  They have this year’s Chili Bowl shirt, as well as four different designs from 2013.

The shirts can be purchased at the trailer at the racetrack.  They are two for $20, or $15 each.

Congrats to Wayne on getting back into a 410 full time.

My only concern is that with all the trouble they had in 2013, why not feel out the season and race as close to your home base as possible (and still make trips to Eldora, PA, etc), and BUILD for 2015.  Seems like they try to jump in head over heels last season (said they were gonna try for WoO Rookie of the Year) and now in 2014 (full time All-Star).

I wish Wayne and his team the best, but it seems that the teams that are making the huge strides are those that build up year to year (Bronson Maeschen comes to mind, they have built slowly every year and won a championship in 2013 - Brian Brown has doen the same thing and is now a car to beat whereever and whenever they show up to race).
