Hemby Bridge, NC – The Second Annual Carolina Sprint Car Flea Market held in Hemby Bridge, NC on Saturday, November 16th has been confirmed by all in attendance as a complete success.  There were more buyers, more sellers, and more star power than the previous year!

Brandon and Jacob showed up at McLain Motorsports around 5 in the morning, and by 6 no one had showed up.  The brothers looking at each other start to get nervous that no one might come.  And then finally someone pulled into the driveway.  Finally!  Dang it…. Its just dad!

Around 6:30, our first guest arrived.  At least we had someone new to talk to.  Shortly after that everyone started slowly rolling in and around midmorning everyone was having a great time wheeling and dealing.

“Carolina Sprint Car Flea Market is a phrase I thought I’d never hear in my life,” quoted Humpy Wheeler as he was being invited to our event while chatting at the World Finals.  Humpy wasn’t able to attend due to prior commitments, but that didn’t stop us from extending invitations to every major sprint car promoter who was willing to listen to us.  By 10:00 Saturday morning, everywhere you looked there was a who’s who of sprint car leaders.

You look one way, there’s World of Outlaw CEO Brian Carter chatting about his 305 season.  Look the other way, there’s United Sprint Car Series leader Pete Walton passing out 2014 schedules.  Look the other way, there’s French Grimes of RaceSaver fame selling engine blocks to new sprint car hopefuls.  Heck, we even had the number one winged asphalt sprint car driver in the country, JoJo Helberg playing video games at the back corner of the shop while George cooked sausage biscuits.   Carter was able to pull some strings at World Racing Group and get the STP show rig with the Donny Schatz sprinter on display in the front yard.  My great grandma didn’t know what to think.

As the sales started winding down, Dave Blaney’s future World of Outlaw crew chief, Jeff McCall gave a great dirt track seminar on adjustments to make at the track.  He discussed everything from bump stops to front wing angles.  After that, I decided to surprise all the promoters with an in-depth question and answer session reviewing 2013 and previewing 2014. Everyone gave interesting insights, and all showed passionate optimism toward the future of sprint car racing in the Carolinas.

All in all, the event was better than anything I could have hoped for, and I want to thank everyone in attendance for supporting the sport of sprint car racing in the toughest region in the country to promote sprint car racing.   I’ve very hopeful for the future, and can’t wait to do it again next year.  Until then, always remember real race cars turn right to go left!

It was great, Brandon.  Thanks for all the effort. I'm all stocked up again.  What a great sprint car summit you had, and in NC no less!  Brian, French, Pete, and Keith Frye each speaking about their series and their visions for the near future was just super.
