It's All About the Kaeding's at Chico

By: Troy Hennig

(Chico, CA 7-28-07)…The Kaeding family stole the show Saturday night during the final night of racing of the Golden State Challenge King of California Series at Silver Dollar Speedway. Tim Kaeding captured the 30-lap main event win but it was Brent Kaeding who won his 13th King of California Championship. Both drivers also battled all 30 laps of the main event for the win. There was a five-lap stretch near the end of the race when the two swapped the lead every lap. Tim Kaeding won on Friday night and in doing so he also captured the Cherry St. Mini Storage bonus of $1,000 for posting the most points during the two nights. With the wins and the bonus Tim won over $7,000 for the weekend driving the Tom Rolfe Trucking #10. At the finish it was the Kaeding's followed by a surging Brandon Wimmer in third. "I wish we could do this every night," said Tim in response to a Gary Thomas question when asked about racing with his dad. "I don't know how my old man can do what he does night in and night out but it just shows why he is the best in California again. We don't give each other any room on the track and I hope the fans enjoyed as much as I did." Tim also took a quick jab at his father when he said, "I am proud of what he did this year and one of these years I'll get another Golden State title but for now I just want to go back on the road and maybe when I get to be his age I will win another one."

Brent was joined by his crew the hogs on the front stretch. "That was fun racing with Tim and it's been fun since he returned home, said Brent. "We almost got together a few times on the track and a couple of yellows didn't go my way. I am not real happy with second but my boys have worked hard all year, we've been up on the podium all year and we are going to enjoy this championship tonight." He also said, "I also have to thank those Hoserville people and putting up $600 for qualifying." Brent turned the quickest lap at 12.117 driving the Al's Roofing Supply Maxim #69. Brent won the title by 35-points over Sean Becker. Willie Croft finished third in the points while Jonathan Allard and Jason Statler tied for fourth in the final points.

Brandon Wimmer added, "I tried to move to the top of the track late in the race and moved up a few spots. Congrats to Tim and Brent, it's been a great year and thanks to the Roth family for allowing me to driver their car."

A big thanks goes out to ManCamp Motorsports who donated eight trophies for the heat race winners to give out to young fans in the grandstand.

Moore Insurance and Financial Inc. along with Scrubs Car Wash and Detail added extra give-a-ways for the grandstand crowd in sponsoring the night of racing.

The John Padjen Motorsports barbeque was well attended on Saturday afternoon to raise money for the Golden State Series point fund. During a raffle during the night of racing the fans raised an extra $1800 for the point fund.

Brent took the early lead from the get go. Brent started on the pole after winning the six-lap dash earlier. Tim moved into the second spot on lap one. The two ran nose to tail until lap four when Tim passed Brent in turn for and took the lead. Tim was able to stretch his lead until the first yellow on lap seven stopped the race. On the restart Brandon Wimmer moved in the third spot. Another driver on the move was Shain Matthews who won the B main event and now had moved into the fifth spot. Another driving holding his own was Evan Suggs who started on the front row with Brent and was solidly in the fourth spot.

On lap 17 Johnny Gray's motor went up in a big ball of fire. The red was needed and the race was halted. After Gray's car was cleared the race resumed with possibly the best racing all year. Tim was the leader and Brent had suddenly found some extra speed. The two started trading the lead for the next seven laps. With a top and a bottom allowing great side-by-side racing the Kaeding's thrilled the crowd. If Tim went high, Brent went low. When Brent took the lead and went high, Tim went to the bottom. On lap 24 Tim regained the lead and never relinquished it to Brent. Kyle Larson stopped in turn one on the lap 25 to bring out the yellow.

Shain Mathews was now in the third spot. On the restart Matthews had a run on Brent going into turn three. Matthews went to the cushion while Brent went to the middle. As Brent slid up the track he didn't know Matthews had a run to the top. What ensued was a racing accident at Matthews rode over Brent right rear tire and took a nasty flip. He walked away uninjured but done for the night.

Tim Kaeding led the final five laps to get the popular win. Brent crossed second while Wimmer was third. Suggs ended up fourth. The mover and shaker of the night was once again Jason Statler. The "big guy" started seventeenth and raced up to a fifth place finish. Statler is always a driver on the move in the main event.

Sean Becker led all eight laps to win heat one. Tim Kaeding started sixth but in four laps was leading heat race two. He went on to win the race. Trevor Green won the third heat race. Jon Maiwald won the fourth heat.
