Surprised to see no comments from people. I wonder if this is not a good thing. Will they try to take control of short track racing? Will they set silly rules if a track signs up? Will this help or hurt us?
I tell it like I see it.

From what I've read, it could be a GREAT deal for short track racing (sponsorships), but I'm sure most short track promotors/owners will be very leary as they've seen big promises before and nothing come of it.
I like the idea of 1 group going to National (or international) companies and presenting sponsorship opportunities for short track racing as a whole -- 1200 tracks according to Humpy with 50,000,000 attendees yearly.
If they can get someone like Pepsi or Coke (or both) to sign on with $2.5 million sponsorships, that would equate to $4000 PER TRACK in sponsorship $$ (give our take, Humpy has been vague as to what their % off the top is, let's say they get 10% - that means $3750 per track instead (although depending on the press release you read, the $$ will be divied up based on attendance also, so the big tracks (Eldora, Williams Grove, Knoxville) would in theory benefit much more than a track like Stuart Speedway (IA) which averages maybe 700 fans.
I'll sit back and watch how it plays out, but I think it's something that each track operator should at least be checking out.
Humpy stated he is not a sanctioning body, this is purely about marketing and sponsorships. And tracks can opt out of different aspects of the program.

Anybody who read the article in OpenWheel magazine back in the day abouy Humpy wanting to buy the World Of Outlaws should be a bit scared about that lunatic trying to get involved in small town grass roots short track racing in any capacity.
Loose is when you hit the wall with the rear of the
car, tight is when you hit the wall with the front of
the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and
torque is how far you move the wall.

That was back when he wanted to run the racing (be a sanctioning body) - thank God he didn't get that accomplished, we'd be watching winged late models instead of sprints ![Smile](/images/Main/smile_100x100.gif)

I guess it all sounds great if it helped the sport but it sure seems like looking at those #s like some of them are being stretched pretty far. From the # of 1200 tracks in this group, 1200 tracks would mean that they would have 24 tracks in every state in the US signed up for this program. Then the 50,000,000 people in attendence #, if you figured each of those tracks has 15 races per year, that would mean that the attendence per race would need to be just about 2800 people at each event. I know theres the big events out there that do draw alot of people but the majority of local races do not draw that kind of attendence, alot of local tracks weekly shows draw 500 people on a good night. Maybe it'll work and will help and that would be great but this press release seems like alot of marketing fluff in itself to me and I have a feeling this marketing group will have there hand well into the pot of money their claiming they will be able to get for these tracks. At the end of the day the tracks will probably end up with a big John Deere sign and a Coca Cola sign and the money will be walking away in the pockets of the marketing Co. JMO though, what do I know.

Well said Speedkills. Humpy isn't in it to 'help' racing unless he can make a buck. Nothing wrong with that but until we get some more details and some results, this is just a bunch of marketing BS.

The way I interpreted it he would have turned sprintcars into his THUNDER ROADSTERS... he wanted to put bumpers around the open wheels, he thought the only materials in the car should be fiberglass and DOM steel... none of those exotic materials like aluminum and chromoly...hahahaha

If Humpy can make a buck or two he will pull this off no doubt about it.

When I saw this my first thought was whether the tracks have to be NASCAR sanctioned dirt tracks to sign up for this program. That would go over like a turd in a punch bowl with sanctions such as WISSOTA, IMCA and USRA to name a few. When I see the name Humpy red flags go up, he's the one that wanted to put starters and side pods or some goofy thing on Sprint Cars. My gut feeling is that somebody sees a business opportunity in monopolizing short track racing. I have no basis for my gut feeling but it won't go away. ![wink](/images/Main/wink_100x100.gif)

Luckily none of you own a local dirt track so I guess whatever Humpy and his minions decide on won't affect your lives in any way.
do it in the dirt

Nope, don't own one myself but I know several people that own dirt tracks so I'm curious as to how this is going to play out.

I know little about this but if Steve Beitler likes it, I'm interested.
50M people certainly seems to be a bit of a stretch, but I guess I can't prove otherwise. But I'm pretty sure that number is supposed to represent the total number of people who attend events at the 1,200 tracks in a year, which would mean an average annual attendance of over 41K at each venue. The release refers to "50 million avid race fans", which would seem to mean that each fan attends just one event/year. If the average attendee went to 10 races in a year, that would make it 5 million fans.
