Stephen Allard puts on amazing charge in Chico
By Gary Thomas
Chico, CA - July 25, 2007...Showing perseverance all night long Chico’s Stephen Allard made a good night out of one that could have easily been a disappointment during the Civil War 360 Series stop at Chico’s Silver Dollar Speedway this past Friday night.
Early in the night the team had trouble getting the engine to run and Stephen qualified a distant 32nd quick aboard the Johnny’s Lock & Safe, Cross Creek Trucking, JP’s Paint & Body, Platinum Powder Coating No. 1m. Once the team found the problem she ran beautifully and Stephen was able to carve his way from eighth to third in his heat race to transfer the 1m Racing, Rocket Chassis, Finley Farms, D.M.I. Components machine into the main event.
The slow qualifying time, however, forced SA to start way back in the 20th for the 30 lap Civil War Series feature. Early in the main event disaster struck as Stephen got upside down after colliding with another car on the front stretch. The crew was able to get the car back together, but it appeared the chance to get back out on the lead lap was shot when the green waved before Stephen could get back out. That’s when lady luck came forth as another stoppage occurred and gave Stephen his chance to get back out on the lead lap.
Restarting way back in 21st the Chico veteran put on a thrilling charge using the high side of the Silver Dollar bullring and with ten laps left in the race, he had made it all the way back up to the top five. Stephen continued moving forward and closed in on second running Andy Gregg on the final lap. SA tried to make the move, but the pair contacted and went across the line sideways with Stephen getting third place to cap off a wild night of action.
1m Racing will be taking this weekend off and will return to action August 3 with the start of the final month of point racing at Silver Dollar Speedway. Stephen currently sits four points behind brother Jonathan in the point standings, but with Jonathan gone for the month of August, Stephen will inherit the point lead. The next closest driver to Stephen is Sean Becker who sits 39 points back.
