Just got back from the silver crown race in DuQuoin Il. There was 15 cars there in were 2 cars drop out before the race even started. Ther was 7 cars runing at the end and three of them ran out of fuel. The 3 third place car was 2laps down.

USAC wake up ditch the format and the rule book! These cars need to run twin 40 lap features, stop on the main straight do any thing you want in 5 min., no clutches, run WOO 410 motors (You could have Ford, Chev, Mopar, and  God forbid some creative engine builders). Have three regional divisions each with a champ, and make them travel to the last race of the season in each division for a nat champ simple and cost effective, make Indy fund a 50 purse for the nat champ and 25K to the car owner-------------I still remember the posters nailed up on power poles " BIG CARS" coming to Sacramento Mile, and standing next to a three foot bull horn speaker in  turn one being ask to move back over and over.

this is hard to understand.  This right in USAC country.  It is not like they had to travel far to get to race.  Not so many years ago they had a consy race because of number of cars.  USAC has a problem, at Burlington they had I think 20 cars, but about 4 were local 360 cars.  The last midget race at Knoxville they had 19 cars.  There are plenty of Silver Crown cars but they are parked.  You could race a Siver Crown car for years as they raced maybe only 6 times a year and a 10 year old car was built just the same as a new one.  Problem is you can not book a USAC race and expect a full field of cars.  Midgets pay so little alot of owners have parked them and multi car owners have retired.

I do not much agree with you.  Most Silver Crown cars are in Indiana area of country.  How are they going to have 3 regions?  The cars are made to run 100 miles on a 1 mile track with a full load of feul.  You can try to re invent it but it will not work.  I think there are about 4 one mile dirt tracks out there, and all are in travel distance but you need about 28 cars.  They had the cars a few years ago.  It is ok to dream, but your dream will never happen.  Owners also had to get paved cars and dirt cars with a short schedual of events.  Drivers love the cars as they a a special creature of thier own.

Do the purses need to be bigger,I do not know how USAC pays off ?
They only have about 8 races a year.

so think about what you said they were designed to run 100 miles and  when we had a horse track in every podunk town in the US that made sense, now you would be hard pressed to find a person that has preped a mile in July when it has been 102 for 20 straight days, let alone a mile that will allow auto racing. These cars look great on a 1/2 mile   we have 12-14 tracks in the west. USAC does not PAY they charge a fee to show and the the promoter is responsible for the purse, but we have no fan base under 65 years old,  USAC midgets do well in areas where there is a strong midget fan base usually created by local club. We watched USAC kill 360 asphalt sprint cars in the west with the alum block 360 deal look around and find how many organizations run all alum down nozzle 360's the next year it was 410's with restrictors, There was a solid field of iron block alum head 360 injected asphalt cars in the west now we have a 2 barrel "club" and all 3-6 of them put on a good show. Seems to me USAC is being given a 2nd chance so do not make bone head decisions that cause people to park cars. Champ cars do not need to run 100 miler races any more, they do not need a motor that is class specific. The best think that ever happened in the West was the failure of ASCS we have close to 100 360's running in Cali because you can go buy used motors for 12-18 thou and I see lots of kids out there having a ball on a very limited budget. USAC and the promotors have done a great job of building the 360 non winged program in the west so they have the skill now go to it!

Probably doesn't bode well for the upcoming 4 Crowns at the Eldora Fairgrounds in a few weeks - hope I'm wrong.  Last year the SC car count was in the teens if I remember correctly, midgets too.

Join forces with the IRL and make them part of the IRL points championship. Hmmm, think that's the way they did it when Indy cars and Silver Crown (aka Dirt Champ Cars) were still drawing crowds and cars. Also, please save the 5 (I hope there are still 5 left) dirt miles we have left.

Could you imagine those IRL drivers racing in a dirt car. Them drivers can't get dirt on there uniforms.

Can you image seeing 33 silver crown cars starting in the Indy 500. Be fun sitting down in turn one...probably pretty loud.

I wouldn't miss that.

We used to get a full field of Silver Crown cars at the Copper and yes the sound of the start was always one of the highlights.  Check out the name's, it truly was "the gathering of the clan".
